Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by

  • GorillaPod 5K Stand operates in 3 modes: grip for interviews and selfies, tripod or wrapping mount. Weve paired this flexible tripod with our pro level BallHead 5K, featuring independent pan and tilt functionality for precise positioning and an Arca-Swiss compatible quick release plate for easy set-up. This kit performs perfectly as an interview/selfie/live stream rig.
  • Our research indicates that the price of this Joby GorillaPod 5K Kit Tripod is $46 lower (39.6% savings) than the next best available price from a reputable merchant with prices starting at $116 at the time of this posting. ~ persian_mafia

Got the error, but then a minute later managed to order, so might be a few left that timed out of carts perhaps.

Got the same error at first. Logged into ShopRunner then ordered - that worked.

Picked up the Gorillapod SLR Zoom with a camera bag for like $30 about a year ago. At least at first glance this appears to be similar but with a better head. Personally I'm not sure that for Gorillapod like applications the head is that important. Not sure this deal is worth it unless the head is actually of good quality and you want to use it elsewhere. Maybe I'm missing something though.

The SLR Zoom model is the same as the new 3K model. Ironically, not the best for DSLRs with a zoom because it can slip. The 5K is a larger version.

5K is for up to 11lbs according to item description. If yours is the 3k like quaziarts says that is only 6.6lbs

It doesn't look like the 5k model vs previous models of Joby Gorillapod have a bubble leveler. Why?!?! Makes me want to wait for the 3k to go in sale because of that one feature.

The much bigger size and better head make the 5K much sturdier. However it is not as portable because it will fill half your backpack or carry-on luggage. Better DSLRs already have a built-in level or you can add a bubble level for about $4.

The 3K is still very capable for GoPros and mirrorless cameras.

I got this with the peak design strap bundle last holiday season. First time I used it was with my brand new Canon 5D Mark IV and 24-70 2.8 lens and I set it up on the coffee table to record video of us opening Christmas presents. Long story short, my set up was heavy enough to make the legs sag and make it tip over and fall on the floor. I don't trust this unattended anymore.

Yikes, I have a mirrorless (a7iii) so hopefully it works better. What was the total weight on yours (body + lens)?
