Is this still a good value if it doesn't come with any mats, blades, or accessories? The listing says:

In the Box:
(1) Cricut Maker, Blue

That's it.

You'll need the mats for certain, along with the rotary blades for cutting. Also, if you have projects that involves drawing, you'll need the pens obviously. The other tools, like scissors or the pick, not so much as you can use tools laying around the house to do what these tools do, but nice to have though.

Having said that, I purchased this for my wife and she absolutely loves this. She's done various projects with this nifty machine as I've watched, and I have to admit, if you're into crafts, this machine is a wonder, particularly with projects that involves meticulous cutting.

Not sure if the ones you get at Michaels/AC Moore contain anything extra, but they usually go for over $300. Thinking about getting one for my wife for mothers day, but would be interesting in hearing any feedback on the machine itself and price comparisons.

I think this puts it in around the same price range as a not-on-sale Cricut Explore machine. Anyone have any good comparisons between the two?

Thanks!

This is a great deal. True that it doesn't contain the extras that you need but currently Joann's is running a sale on cricut items. The machine by itself sells for over $300 as stated before. If you have a crafter in your house they would love this machine.

I've had a few cricut machines. Comparing to the explore air 2, the maker can cut the thickest material. The maker is the only machine compatible with the knife blade, so it can cut balsa wood. I can cut leather on my air 2 depending on the thickness, but I've seriously considered upgrading to the maker.
the cutting mats are pretty cheap on Amazon, and the accessories, like blades etc., you need to replace every so often anyway.

Thanks for the input on this. My wife works at a school so she really just wants to be able to cut out letters, designs, etc on regular paper most of the time. Also will probably do some scrap booking at home and other crafts. Sounds like the Explore Air 2 would do the trick, but my only worry would be the others things she would possibly "want to do" once she see's what these things are capable of lol. Kinda want to future proof as much as possible since she is pretty creative and crafty!

Anyone that was eyeing this deal, joann fabrics has the cricut maker right now on sale. If you are an ibotta user, there is an instant $20 cash back, as well as 15% cash back when you scan your receipt. I picked it up and with cash back got about $84 back.

Yeah, I just upgraded to my explore air 2 in January, and I'm already upgrading to the maker
