We have this with one parent unit. This is a very solid no frills unit. We use this when when our kids are at the age where we don't feel we need video.

When they are still real baby's where we want video we use the infant optics DXR-8. The mic on this Vtech is actually more sensitive than the infant optics.

Also have this with one parent unit. Works really well in the house. Range seems to be lacking a little when we take it outside, but we also have a change in elevation. Battery doesnt last that long anymore on the parent unit but it's almost always been plugged in for the past three years. One other thing, when it is not connected to the child unit it has a very loud beep. Very useful for knowing it's not connected, very annoying in the middle of the night when you know the power is out and you still want to sleep.

Used these through two kids. They are awesome. Battery life is great. Video is not necessary, and mostly drives you crazy.

These were our monitors of choice and overall I was very hapoy with them. That being said we needed to replace them twice (over course of 4-5 years) because at least one unit stopped working.

One time was within warranty, but I felt that failure rate was a bit high. But while they worked they were great.

Thanks for the info. Just added the 3-year warranty for $3.

We have the one parent unit and it's been working great for over three years. Have used it for multiple kids. Great quality and very sensitive mic, it will pick up almost every noise.

I bought these a few months ago. The range and clarity is fantastic. Two way walkie talkie function is convenient.

Negative - these things interfere with 2.4ghz wifi terribly.

I'll echo everyone else and say that we purchased these about 5 years ago and have been happy with them. We had to replace the rechargeable batteries once, but that was cheap and easy. They've been subjected to the typical wear and tear young kids provide and still work great.

We used this set for a couple of years nightly and never had any issues with the 2.4 wifi. Maybe it was the specific channel you were on or your router that was susceptible to interference. These things are great though. Used the set from my child's birth until a little after she turned 2 and never experienced any issues.

Yup. We have this exact setup and it has been fantastic. I think I paid about this price via Amazon warehouse a year or so ago based on a recommendation from Wirecutter.

One thing no one has mentioned which I love is that the sensitivity can be adjusted to ignore stuff like white noise machines and soft music.

the only annoyance has been random disconnections. Our house is three stories with the transmitter in the middle and receivers above and below. The walls are quite thick and plaster to boot; WiFi and dect 6 signals don't always carry as far as I would like. This unit does fine 99% of the time, but will occasionally lose connection with the transmitter at random times. We have two wifi routers and a dect 6 phone system which don't seem to interfere with anything.

The beep it makes when it is disconnected is terrible, so have it close enough to turn off from bed if it disconnects during the night.
