This is my first post so I hope I got everything covered. It looks like T-mobile is offering a $400 bill credit(free Pixel3a) with select trade-ins. This might be a good time to get rid of those OG Pixels.

For a limited time, get Google Pixel 3a on us via 24 monthly bill credits when you trade in an eligible device. Available today at 9:00 p.m. PST.

Starting online at 9 p.m. PT on May 7th and in-stores on May 8, 2019, for a limited time, new and existing customers who purchase any version of the Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, or Pixel 3a XL can save up to $400 via one-time trade-in bill credit and 24 monthly bill credits when they trade-in an eligible device. For well-qualified customers, that means if you purchase a Pixel 3a and trade-in an eligible device, you can get it on us!

Eligible devices for trade-in (in good condition):
Save $400 when you trade in an Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus; Samsung GS8 series, GS9 series Note8; LG V40, V30, V30+, G7; Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL; One Plus 6T
Save $200 when you trade in an Apple iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus; Samsung GS7 series, Note5, GS6 series; LG V20, G6; One Plus 6
Save $100 when you trade in an Apple iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone SE; Samsung GS4 series, GS5 series, Note4; LG G5, G4, V10; One Plus 5, 5T

EDIT: DEAL ENDS TOMORROW MAY 16, 11:59PST

To make it clear, the $400 is good for 4 different phones. Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3aXL. So if anyone thinks the 3a is not good enough and is willing to pay for the better phones, here is a chance.

For those wondering if the 3a is an upgrade from the original Pixel I'll highlight the things I personally think matter.

Pros:
Brand New Battery
3 more years of Android OS upgrades
MUCH better camera
Higher future trade in value

Cons:
Trading in a Pixel for a 3a will lose you unlimited original photo quality backups.

Even:
Performance is close to the same, with the 3a being slightly faster.

If you're a T-Mobile customer that plans to remain a T-Mobile customer, it's pretty much a no-brainer upgrade even accounting for the tax, activation fee (if any), and extra $80 for the Pixel 3a XL. The 3a trade if value along is worth more than the upgrade costs, making it better than free to trade in an original Pixel. It's profitable to upgrade.

For those that did a trade in at the store is it showing anywhere on the receipt that you get the promo monthly bill credits or a Pixel 3a promo?
My receipt and someone else who traded it in at the same store shows nothing about the Pixel 3a trade in promo anywhere in the receipt or the EIP section on mytmobile.
You won't see the promotion listed anywhere on the receipt. The last section of the paperwork you received should say something about Device Recovery Program. That's where you'll see the info about the phone you traded in, and the up-front credit for the device (in the case of an original Pixel, $40). If you see that, you're good.

In about a day you'll see the promotion listed in your account. I had a hard time finding it at first. It's somewhere under the "Account" heading. You should see an option to show your promotions. If not, click on the specific line you upgraded, and then you'll see the option to view promotions. It'll be listed there. For me, it showed up the very next day (less than 24 hours). You won't see it today if you did the upgrade/trade-in today. Check tomorrow though and it'll be there.

According to posts here and on Reddit from people much more knowledgeable with the trade-in process, once the store accepts the trade-in you're all set. As mentioned above, you'll see the promotion listed in about a day and can then rest easy. I can't imagine once the promo is approved and on the account that there would be any issue. From what I understand, as long as the store accepts the phone, you're off the hook for any issues that may arise (like Assurant rejecting the trade-in from the store). IMHO, it's well worth the $20 upgrade charge to have an answer same-day about the trade-in instead of waiting a month to find out you're denied.

For current customers who have no reason to leave T-Mobile in the next 2 years....
Step 1: Buy a working Pixel on eBay for ~$80
Step 2: Purchase 3a phone. Trade in Pixel for $400 in bill credits.
Step 3: Profit!

Edit: In the past you needed the IMEI to place the order with trade-in. Get that from the ebay seller immediately after you purchase.

Edit 2: OG Pixel provides $40 trade-in value up front. Then will get $360 spread over 24 months.

IT IS FREE
It costs $400
They credit you back $400
That means the cost of the phone is ZERO

On any carrier you gotta buy the phone plus pay for the service, that's no different here
So they spread the bill credits out over 24 months, who cares?
Ok. Let's say I go do this, I trade in my note 8 and get the pixel 3a
They put it on an EIP, monthly payment for the phone is 16.67
Each month they credit me 16.67

So I add 0 to my bill above the cost of my phone line. FREE with trade-in.
Now, let's say next month I decide f**k tmobile I don't wanna be with them anymore.

I call them up, make arrangements to continue the device payments and cancel my service.
Each month I get a bill for 16.67 for the phone, and a credit for 16.67, net bill of zero. FREE with trade-in.

The only way it's not free is if you're too lazy to read and comprehend, and you cancel service without contacting them to arrange to continue the device payments first.
Jesus mother of F*** why do I even have to explain this.

I would change the title to "T-Mobile: Free Google Pixel 3a - trade in required (bill credits)"

Anyone who would waste time complaining about that title is the type that complains just to complain at that point.

Who do you think will give you free phone for nothing? It's given that it is bill credit with trade in. or may be Rebate with tradein (e.g. costco)

I do not plan to leave TMO anytime soon. I pay like $120 for 6 lines all in. Going to get like 4 Pixel 3a and either sell them or keep for spares. Searching ebay for OG Pixels now.

Don't believe so, it's any carrier locked or unlocked as long as the IMEI is clean

This seems like a plan. Any idea which model of Pixel I should look for just to make sure it works with t-mobile ?

Also, t-mobile states - trade-in should be in good condition. Any pointers on that ?
Samsung seems to be anal with their trade-in programs.
