The generally accepted "best deal" price is the Kingsford sale on major grilling holidays, at ~$0.26/lb. So this is a very good price.

Unlike Kingsford, RO doesn't taste like pine trees.

Kingsford uses an accelerant to help their charcoal start burning a little bit faster, which might be considered a feature. If you are cooking at low temp, you might need to give your RO a touch more airflow.

RO makes very good charcoal. I personally prefer it over the standard Kingsford Blue Bag.

Pro Tip: RO makes many store brands of charcoal. Just look for the ridge logo on the bag, and buy on the best price!

Thanks. In general, what's a good deal for charcoal? This comes out to $0.25/lb. Is that better than usual?

Also, you might want to check out this older thread. I checked it when it was first posted, and my local lowes had it at full price. But now they seem to have marked it down 50% or so. I am not a grilling expert by any means, but hopefully this also helps someone!

This was $6 a few weeks ago.

Not lump (everybody always posts that), but decent at $4 if you can get free shipping.

What's this ridge logo you're referring to? I have been using Royal Oak natural lump coal for years now and always try to find deals on it. Thanks.

If you're using royal oak lump for smoking, they've come out with a new line. It's the XL cut and they claim it's for smoking. I've had no issues with the normal but saw it in Walmart and plan to try it before my next competition. Just an FYI post

Have used this for a couple years now. Makes Kingsford look like crap.

Oddly they let me have 10 bags shipped. Beats having to go to the store. Will pick up some lump too.

They also have RO All Natural briquettes. They have no filler, so they make much less ash vs. KBB. The regular shape really helps with maintaining a consistent fire. And the lack of filler also means more energy density in the same amount of space (less fuel reloads!). It's a great solution for kettles, gravity fed smokers, bullet/drum smokers, etc. You can also run it in a kamado, though I would recommend a some kind of charcoal grate with more airflow since the ash does seem a little denser than lump.

$0.25/lb is very good, anything $0.40/lb and under is a good deal, it will rarely if ever be below $0.25/lb

Thanks for that info, just ordered 6 bags with free shipping. Cheap quality charcoal delivered to my door, can't complain about that.
