Worth upgrading from a Tivo Roamio Plus 6-tuner that I got from Fry's for $136?

The problem with upgrading is, they charge so much for transferring your lifetime membership from one device to another.

I don't think so. The streaming apps load faster on the Bolt but a $60 Roku could get you the same results.

Yes. If it does not have lifetime/All-in service on it. Otherwise, no.

There is no transferring of lifetime service allowed at this time. You would have to purchase All-In service at full price for the new box if you don't want to pay monthly.

How much faster is the processor compared to the Roamios? I've noticed my Roamio is quite laggy lately when navigating the main menu etc.

You'd be so much better waiting for the refurbished ones from Tivo with the lifetime service included...

This is the only way to buy/upgrade TiVo boxes.

Only IF you need 4k capability, AND you don't have a better device to already stream things in 4k, such as a Roku Ultra. A Roamio is good, but it's not 4k capable (1080p max) and it's slower than a Bolt.

I do NOT like the Bolt's formfactor though. Small 2.5" harddrives, and that crazy bent box just doesn't do it for me.

But you lose the integration. I set up all my streaming shows with season passes and just go to them from My Shows. Plus the universal search will search the streaming apps and take you there. You lose that all in one integration and seamlessness.

That said, I wouldn't buy a non lifetime unit.

No thanks. No direct TV access. Everything is accessed through a fire device. No roku, chromecast, Apple TV, smart TV and so on. You pretty much have to live in Amazon's ecosystem through a fire device on every TV. And the four tuner version is more expensive.

Recording live sports can be an issue as I think it's limited to an hour buffer.

And it can only do two streams at a time. Not good for a larger household.

Don't think you can download shoes on a tablet or phone for offline viewing. So bad wifi outside of the home could be a deal breaker.

No commercial skip either.

Think Tablo is a better option at the moment, but it's a great offering from Amazon for now. I'm sure it'll get better over time.

I'll stick to tivo. And I have the option to do cable or ota. Not necessarily on this deal, but with tivo in general.
