On top of the other Republic Wireless deal (pay up front and a year of service costs 10x monthly price), Republic Wireless [republicwireless.com] offers K-12 teachers and support staff a 50% off discount on service [republicwireless.com]. Discount applies to all lines on the account.

Existing customers sign up by emailing hello@republicwireless.com from your school email and stating the email associated with the account.

New customers sign up at the above link, clicking on the "sign up" button.

This deal stacks with the annual pre-pay discount.

Republic Wireless is a TMobile/Sprint MVNO that lowers costs by auto-switching the phones to Wifi when available. Buy a phone through them or BYOP (check phone compatibility here [republicwireless.com] -- Android only. Sorry, iPhone people.)

Thanks to this deal and the annual pre-pay, my wife and I are paying $23 a month total, taxes and fees included. I get 1GB/mo, she gets 2.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I had seen people mention the teacher discount but never knew it was 50% on all lines. Will pass this along to some teacher friends. Thanks for the heads up.

Is this as good as postpaid Sprint and T-Mobile?

I imagine this deal is only good through this week or something, due to teacher appreciation...

I'm currently on the "free unlimited" Sprint plan til late this year, so I probably can't justify switching

edit: Just noticed "MVNO", so probably not "as good" as postpaid. I know a number of friends that love this service though

For $10 - it probably would be the same assuming you are using 1GB of data, you probably pay that much in taxes.

FYI: Republic Wireless numbers are VoIP/Landline. This may be a problem with SMS services used by school districts.

My bill is something like $4.86 for unlimited talk/text/data with Sprint's Unlimited Plan

If you go over data allotment, do they charge you or just slow down speeds?

I think professors can afford better. And if travel overseas often, free international data and text message from TMobile might be better

Even as a low data user, Republic was mediocre before their slippage bullshit and it's just garbage now. Enjoy getting the phone numbers Sprint customers no longer wanted because they were used by criminals and deadbeats in the past, with the calls to go with it. At least there's like a 30% chance the cal will randomly drop, as do all others.

Also no 2fa SMS on a third of the internet.
