I've jumped on this deal last year - two of the three are unusable by now - wheels detached, frame bent so that the handle doesn't fully expand/collapse

I was wondering about the wheels. It seems that's where my luggage falls apart

Are these issues that would be covered by the Samsonite warranty?

Great Deal. I got the Blue Lagoon. Had the 10% ebay bucks offer in my account. Plus used one of the cashback sites that sounds similar to ebay (tes) and referred a friend (my other account) so that I get $25 referral bonus and my friend (again me) gets another $10 plus 2% cash back.

So to do the math:

Total: 199 - 20% + Tax (NY) = 174.19
Ebay Bucks: $16
Refer Bonus: $25 + $10 = $35
Cashback Bonus: $3.50

Total I paid: $119.69

I didn't need the largest or smallest sized ones - and they have each size for sale individually and you can still use the coupon from their Ebay store. I picked up 2 of the 25" pieces. Thanks!

The set seems to have a lower price of $199.99 before 20% off. The total price of three individual pieces of luggage is $254.97 from Samsonite store.

"Our warranty does not cover repairs resulting from carrier damage, misuse or neglect of the product, normal wear and tear, or repairs beyond the warranty period."

The damage is obviously caused by luggage handling companies - I don't believe it's a warranty case.

ABS and Polycarb are both dent-prone. If you're checking these, expect mild damage to the shell, that's what they're designed for.

The reason you get nice luggage is for the casters. Not only are they better to roll with, but are actually replaceable. I'm betting these are molded to the bottom so if one breaks, the entire unit is garbage.

I went with the Amazon checked hard luggage because the casters just pop in and out, if one is damaged, just replace it.

Yes, Samsonite is famous for this. Warranty is virtually irrelevant, you won't be getting much warranty support if the airline touched your bag and it came back with damage. anything else that goes wrong will be captured in "normal wear and tear", and thus warranty will be denied again.

There is a reason why extremely high quality luggage carries a $400+ per bag price tag, they are replaced basically for life.

You could try it anyway. United destroyed a Nautica bag by obliterating two wheels (same flight they lost part of a stroller) and Nautica replaced it without a problem.

I understand that it's cheaper to buy the entire set, but I didn't want the smallest or largest sized suitcases, just the medium sized one. I was just saying that if you only wanted a specific size, they were on sale individually in their Ebay store and you could also apply the coupon to that.

Thanks. Glad to hear you like the bags.

Seemed like a good deal to me. Just had a bag destroyed this weekend by Spirit air so needed to shop for a replacement.
This is my worry. I had cloth bags for decades, never ripped or broken, samsonite or other brands, no problems. I know airlines toss these like match boxes so I am worried about breakage. Yes sure they can replace it, but why go through the hassle, or spilled contents, etc..

Also these are generally heavier than the soft luggages. I really want to get some nice looking luggage, any suggestions? Nothing crazy look, just understated but decent, had enough of black samsonites, they are like dime a dozen and people confuse them at airports.
