Thanks... I have been waiting to buy the LG V20 as a music player due to its Quad DAC ..
It's fantastic! I bought one for a stand alone music player/streamer a year ago. My screen had a lot of micro scratches, only visible on reflections during daytime, but I don't care since I use it for audio.

No, you're right. The PH-1 screen touch issues are well documented. That's because they put a substandard digitizer in it. The camera has been scrutinized and criticized. It improved with updates but the hardware remained the same. Both issues haven't been a big problem for many, but to many others like me, it was unacceptable. Now the startup company is barely afloat.

I want to get the V20 as a stand alone player.....Just can't find a practical use for it, as I already have a decent sounding, small Cowon player for portability, and have a couple DAC+ headphone Amps.
If I had a car, It would make much more sense, being able to store 256GB on a micro SD, and connect it directly to a car stereo, that has had a good sounding aftermarket deck unit.

I had a v20 and currently use an essential, would recommend them both. Be prepared to return whatever you buy phone sellers on eBay are all liars about condition.

I'll be tie breaker..ph1 great idea poor execution. There is a reason they are not making phones any more. They focused on specs vs quality.

So as a reference to anyone interested in the LG v20, I save everyone the few clicks I just made.
Specific model number is LS997 (sprint version) [lg.com]
Bands: LTE Bands 2/3/4/5/7/12/25/26/41; CDMA Band Class0/1/10; GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; UMTS Bands1/2/4/5/8
Battery IS removable and given the age (Fall 2016) I'd assume if this is your daily driver it might be something youd want to look into the cost of replacing.
The ebay site DOES have a 2 yr sq trade option for $21 bucks... with LG reputation I'd definitely consider this.
ITS NOT unlocked but I (assume) there are some creative options out there for that.
For me- It's higher res screen, gyro, and dual back cam offer additional value in using as a dashcam or VR headset.
I don't need a DD so I'm on the fence to use as

Love my V20. Battery life is much better now that I got the new Perfine 4100mah li-polymer battery from Amazon that fits with the stock phone back cover. 7 hours screen on time, which is much better than with stock batteries.

I have the Lg 20. Never had overheating issues. But the battery performance is the worst Ive ever expierenced in any phone.

It charges fast and loses charge just as fast.

If you use your phone for directions it's done for the day.

Just a heads up on the V20, and LGs in general, from someone who has been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt for 3 years now. In April 2016, just two weeks after it came out, I got the LG G5 brand new because of it's unique features and through some deal stacking that resulted in it only costing 90-something at BB, which I paid with GCs from one of the previous laptop trade in deals. It always ran hot enough to make my hands sweat profusely, and when it quit less than 2 years later, it got stuck on the lg logo at startup, and then the screen wouldn't even come on, it just made the lg startup sound. Then in February of last year, after months of not having a phone, I bought a used LG v20 on CL for 100 in perfect shape, which lasted me just under a year. It often ran hot, though not as bad as the G5, and when it quit, Apps began crashing frequently, and then one day it wouldn't boot past the LG screen. Then in early March, I bought another used LG V20 off Ebay, and in 5-6 weeks it did the same thing, only when it failed, it failed so hard that it wouldn't even let me open the factory reset menu from the startup screen. Even now, I love the features of the V20 so much I want to get yet another one, but I have a job now where keeping my boss from getting frustrated from not being able to reach me is worth more than those extra features. I just thought people should know, that there are those of us who are trying hard and struggling to like LGs, not just the people who have one bad experience or hear one bad thing and speak about it as if know for sure they all have the same problems.

My personal experience says not to recommend LG phones. Numerous issues on forums and personally, my 1 year old G6 has app bugs (namely eBay) and the vibration broke, which is not uncommon. Never LG again for phones. Good luck

I loved the essential ph-1 except I had nonstop signal issues. Those were never fixed through updates. I was on AT&T though so YMMV.

I just moved from the essential phone to pixel 3a. I wanted to like the essential phone, but the camera was so bad even with the updates. And my touch screen on it started getting wonky, and scrolling was not great, as well as subpar haptic feedback. Now that I list all those things, I realize the phone pretty much sucked. I had the LG v20 prior to that, and absolutely loved it. It's just getting a little bit long in the tooth at this point. But the audio was so good from it and I liked the tap to wake and second screen. The pixel 3a pretty much checks those boxes and has a top notch camera. Moral of the story is of you are considering these, get the v20.
I agree with you on the camera on essential. I had touchscreen issue with one of my 3 essentials, and I got it replaced within warranty. Having said that, Essential is one of the best phone I have ever used. I sold my v20 in 2 weeks due to size of the phone. Even though the screen size is same for Essential and V20, the essential feels so much smaller and compact.

Another important aspect about Essential is the pure android and it gets updates along with Pixel devices. This is the one device I never had to root or install custom ROMs even though we have them available for essential.

Is a GCam Mod port available for the Essential phone, and if so, does it improve the image quality?
