Every DVR service charges, compiling the TV listings isn't free, I agree thought that the title is misleading.
Not my trusty loyal Windows Media Center which I'e been using for years and never a fee. Oh and yes there is a version that works with Windows 10 for OTA (sorry cable guys).

Actually, you can get free tv listings, albeit it's a little cumbersome to set up. You can also link it into apps like NextPVR for free. However, I have yet to find anything that is as streamlined and simple as Windows Media Center. I can't bring myself to pay for a service that was once free and worked very well (WMC). One of the worst things of upgrading to Win10.
Go here https://www.windowsmediacenter.fr...isponible/ , turn the page to english and download 8.83. This version works great if you are using OTA only. Give it a try. I've been using it for weeks now and have not seen one bug.

I'd recommend buying the hauppage dual USB tuner if you are using a computer. Much faster and better tuner than silicon dust.

Does anyone know if buying via Google Express allows you to return at B&M Best Buy?

Emby is another DVR alternative but it's not free, well worth the lifetime subscription and far superior to Plex IMO.

I only use OTA with HdHomerun. I'm aware of this version, but I am very hesitant to start using it since the developers are not an established company, etc. The software is probably perfectly safe right now, but what to expect in the future?

Wait, this is a OTA DVR and they still charge for the DVR service? What advantages does this have over the other products that does not require a subscription like my Tablo?

Edit: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tabl...Id=6211546
Tablo requires a subscription for the guide. There is DVR software you can use with this that's completely free (mythtv/nextpvr) or that charges a one time fee (Plex/emby).

Can you use Plex instead of the DVR service?
Yes, but you need to get PlexPass for listings and DVR service.

Well, I only use this PC as a HTPC and have no personal identifiable or important data on it. So i have no problem delaying feature or security updates. In the next windows update later this month you will be actually able to delay the twice annual major update for up to a year. (Windows 10 pro can actually do this now which is what I'm using.) Plenty of time to wait and see if they have any bugs on it with the semi-annual update. Much better than the hassle of NextPVR are the like. The guy developing it is a pretty smart and only doing it out of his own love of WMC.

My Amazon Fire Recast does not have a monthly fee.
Requires a paid Prime membership.

EDIT: This might be an incorrect statement, although I'm unable to personally verify it. I thought it was required though from my research when I bought mine. That said, I don't have the ability to test this without erasing all of our recordings on ours.

Unless the PC is entirely firewalled or physically off your network, and you aren't swapping info on USB drives, etc, it's a risk. Feature bugs are not what concern me. It's tempting, don't get me wrong, but I'm very risk averse with these types of issues.

Gotcha. I did scan it with Windows defender and it showed no threats. I find it a minimal risk but understand your pov.

Purchased this 11 days ago from Best Buy for $99.99 and they just price matched it for me via chat.

It works great. We were a FiOS TV household since the beginning (in a test market) and finally dropped it about a year ago. Installed an antenna in the attic, but no amount of signal boosting was enough to overcome the long runs of old coax plus who-knows-how-many splitters buried in the walls of this old house. Each TV could only receive a few of the ota channels, some more than others. Already have whole-house mesh Wi-Fi and Fire sticks at each TV, so this was an extremely easy install. We never watch on more than 2 devices at once, so this works great for us.

Now it's time to eBay all the antennas and boosters etc we tried first...
