Wish it departed a few days later. Kids are in camp that whole time, and that's paid for already!

BE is basic economy which means no checked bag or overhead bin access

Just took a BE United from ewr lax, you cant even select your own seat. Not to mention the no carry on, just one personal item. But 499 is really good.

that's correct, what the user said. BE is basic economy, a restricted-type fare where you board last, can't select seat and only 1 small personal item.

however, if you carry their branded credit card, you get some restrictions lifted.

Make sure you book the ticket with the branded credit card...

BE is a tough sale on a flight that long. Keep in mind you're boarding last and don't have a say in your seat so it's not going to be ideal. Of course you can pay extra to check a bag but not being allowed a free carryon will also add up. Aside from that restriction, Hawaii is my favorite place in the world at the moment.

I don't think you need to actually pay for the ticket with that credit card as long as you have one tied to your MileagePlus number.

You do get a free carry-on AND checked-baggage if you have a UA/Chase card and/or status.

However, no upgrades or seat selections even if you are an elite on BE.

got burnt a while back. Booked the flight on a different card, and United would not honor checked bag. They stated the free bag is automatically added when you book the flight with the card. Be careful.
