These SSDs runs hot. Would not recommend for booting OS.
Relative to what? This is a NVMe drive but it has slower sequentials than most of the faster drives since its controller (SM2263) is only four-channel. It's also only dual-core so doesn't ramp up as much as say, the Phison E12 or Samsung's Phoenix/Polaris controllers. It also only has 256MB of DRAM so gets less heat generation from that. It's also single-sided so easier to cool. It also uses QLC which in pSLC/SLC mode is more efficient, in QLC mode it's too slow to get hot. You won't be able to do enough sequential writes at speed to throttle this controller in most cases, while any E12/SM2262/SM2262EN/Samsung drive will. In fact the only cooler NVMe drives might be the SM2263XT drives (HP EX900 w/HMB) or the WD SN500 (DRAM-less) and those can both be less efficient with mixed workloads.

If you're impatient and/or can't wait, this is as good a deal as any other. Well, Newegg is selling the Adata SU650 for $86, but it's SATA and dramless. That's a low tech ssd while this is a high tech ssd but QLC. In summary this will perform better than the SU650 but the interfaces are totally different

Ordered this a couple of days ago with a Satechi adapter from Amazon. Going to install this in a 2017 MacBook Air. Hopefully, all works out!

Yeah and w/SSD's every post has someone who poses the question"dramless?" when a simple google search or research the manufacturers page will tell you if it has it.

You're implying people want to put in that much effort. No people here love crapping on a deal because it doenst fit every feature their phone has. A 20kmah battery pack for $10? doesnt have quick charge and USB-C power delivery thats only in battery packs 8 times the price. Thats like posting a car for $10k less than retail and someone posting "doesnt have a ferarri engine in it and cant fly therefore its a terrible deal"

How does this compare to a standard SATA SSD? I'm in the market for an OS and game drive, and was hoping to wait until the 860 EVO went on sale again but this is super tempting.
