Special price today and tomorrow only at Adorama.

Retails at $179, I jumped the gun last week on Google Express with $20 at $159 and luckily could submit a price rewind. This NAS has a quad core ARM processor and 1 GB RAM, not the highest end but great specs at this price.

It will be fine. I used to use a weak NAS simply for hosting and my shield did the local media playback (including 4K HDR MKVs). It worked great. I've also heard of many Shield servers. PM me if you have additional Qs.

Yes, did exactly what you are thinking because I couldn't afford to buy 2 drives at the same time. Works fine and no reformatting needed.

Does it support initially using a single disk and later adding a second to mirror without reformatting?

If all I want is to be able to access my videos on my home NAS from my office or the airport, am I better off with Qnap or Synology?

thanks!

Both should do the trick, but I feel Synologys software is a bit more polished.

I just got it so not sure if it supports it but I would think both QNAP and Synology would, at least via VPN. But you definitely get more bang for the buck with QNAP, especially at this price...

Qnap customer service is a bit lacking but I typically like their nas setups but I agree with the poster above that synology software is a bit more polished.

Not even to just access the files from? Transcoding will take place on another device
