Don't go through the frustration I did. Home Depot likes to play games with this item (and others like Milwaukee tools). I had it on my physical cart and at the check out line they absolutely refused to give me the price even though I showed them. The reason: The is no store SKU listed--even though the model # is the same.

If you notice there is a model #, Internet #, and 'Store SO SKU' number, with 'SO' meaning Special Order. I had this page open the other day and there was a 'Store SKU' number in addition to the other three showing the regular price. Now that 'Store SKU' is gone and you _must_ purchase online and pay the delivery fee.

That said, I was with a friend who had 10% off coupon that I used which, when adding in the delivery fee back into the online 'sale', was actually a better deal. The extended warranty is around $69--worth it since this is more complicated than a traditional WH.

The best deals on these are in areas where the electric company subsidizes this (mine does not).

Home Depot is a smart seller. I noticed that when you buy stuff like a toilet or faucet, they make sure that the vendor only sells that item (excludes everything else required for the installation). So you would have to buy the hoses, coupling, nuts, toilet seat, wax base etc etc.
Whereas if you buy from Costco it includes everything needed (sometimes tools also) and more. So we end up paying a lot more at HD. Just my opinion.

I had a similar issue. Energy Trust of Oregon provides a $500 instant rebate, but Home Depot applies this to the original price of $1299, so it rang up as $799. After several minutes of talking them through the situation and explaining that the $500 rebate should be taken off of the advertised price of $1170, I got them to adjust the price by $129. I then busted out a 15% off movers coupon I just got and was able to shave another $102 off the price. So all told, I got it for $568.

Yeah interestingly enough the $500 instant rebate is only valid on the 50 gallon. Gonna be a while before I hook it up as it's one of many things as part of a full on renovation
