Removing 3rd party API makes this and all Nest products much less attractive. I'll be removing Nest products from my house soon.

What does this mean in laymen's terms?

He/she's saying since Google bought Nest they're doing a more walled garden approach (think Apple products) and not letting 3rd parties access API's (application programming interface). That means you're stuck with whatever Google gives you in terms of features and capabilities.

It means he hasn't been keeping up with the news. Google is transitioning all works with nest services to works with Google Assistant. No functionality will be lost.

Not sure if everyone has this issue...but I have a nest doorbell and its notification lag is a serious downside...also its cooling time is extra long......

Can you further explain this? I don't know what cooling time is in relation to a video doorbell.

Sure...once someone trips your motion detection.....the cooldown timer is tripped....meaning that ...say 20 mins later another person comes along...Nest wont detect it and alert you...bc it's still on its cooldown timer...I'm not exactly sure how long that timer is...but it's way longer than my RingPro when I had Ring.....

Before anyway thinks about picking this up, you need to take a good look at those monthly subscription cost. They're pretty damn expensive.

Thanks for that. I can't believe there is some arbitrary timer as long as 20 minutes in between people coming to the door. That seems like a bone-headed design flaw that would be easy to circumvent by literally any nefarious person who knows this. This isn't configurable or solvable in some other way?

If anyone can confirm, I'd be highly appreciative.

Am I correct in that there's no way my Amcrest NVR will be able to pick up the IP address of the Nest doorbell and record directly onto my NVR? Right?
