EGO is best but..

DeWalt would come in second place for me and actually this DeWalt weedwacker is insanely popular at Home Depot.

I say EGO is best because all they do is lawn equipment and their batteries are superior to those shown here for lawn equipment. Their batteries are physically larger, designed to dissipate while being better prepared at keeping the elements of mother nature from actually destroying it.

EGO batteries and tools knows what battery is in it and will power up based on that as to not drain your battery instantly if you're using something smaller. Their batteries also charge significantly faster than this DeWalt charger.

With that said, you'll be paying a lot more for EGO.

Only complaint

While this blower is not bad, again it doesn't compare to the industries best - EGO. It's actually very difficult to get a blower to push out a great deal of force while also conserving energy as much as possible.. it's the most difficult tool in this regard actually.

DeWalt doesn't miss it entirely but it doesn't compare to EGO. If you've come from a decent corded blower to this, you'll notice the difference if you have a lot of area to blow.. you'll notice the power and how long you actually have. Even though EGO wins out year after year with blowers, their bowers on smaller batteries at max power still doesn't last that long but they have mechanisms in place to control the speed so you're not just relying on a trigger where it's difficult to lock into a medium speed (sidewalks for example, medium speed to keep debris from law - you dont want it max speed or it gets everywhere but with just a speed trigger, you cant lock into a lower setting and just keep it there, your finger will cause it to fluctuate a lot thus draining the battery faster).

ECHO Weedwacker

I have a top of the line ECHO weed wacker, professional and for my lawn it's frankly extreme overkill. It's been great at clearing away fern that's overgrown or thick Saint Augustine grass but even then when I was recently clearing out a lot of unwanted plants - I had it on it's lowest setting and it was still ripping through it like I had it on full speed.

While this is an incredible testament to the power of modern ECHO weedwackers, I really wish I had not bought it. I didn't trust battery technology until I got the blower and then the ego chainsaw.. then I saw wow these are same power but much better everywhere else feature wise. This DeWalt will have similar power as will the EGO trimmers/weedwackers.

TL;DR:

If blowing is really important to you (run time, power including wet oak leaves), spend more and get EGO instead. They're best in industry. If you don't have a fast charger for DeWalt, again consider EGO.

If you have a relatively small area to clean up and are already in the DeWalt battery line and/or plan on getting a fast charger.. get this, it's cheaper. The actual trimmer itself will be nearly identical to EGO in regard to overall power.

BUT if you want a tree trimmer for example to attach to it, EGO is best in this department too with even professional tall hedge trimmers available, the selection is bigger and yes a bit more expensive but it's truly professional grade and their tree trimmer extensions can reach really high up without getting on a ladder.

Ignoring EGO entirely, I'd say this is an extremely good deal.

So I bought this combo the last time it was offered...really impressed. Blower does a nice job of things I never thought of (like blowing wood dust off your clothes, or quickly blowing dust off your miter saw). The string trimmer has 2 speeds--I've used low and it's pretty much a gas equivalent...high speed runs through the battery more quickly, and has more RPMs but I've not yet thought I'd need it.

Think the string trimmer piece of metal needs to be sharpened (has some trouble trimming the string to size when you bump for a new piece).

All in all, quite pleased with the combo. Really a good deal, especially with the 4Ah battery.

Can anyone compare this string trimmer to a gas equivalent? Such as what size motor CC would you say this is comparable to? I have an echo 21 CC and I'm curious how this would compare.

I have the trimmer and its excellent for home use. Such a huge upgrade over the corded cheap trimmers. I have difficulty winding the string trimmer though when it need more string though but it's more of a practice thing. The battery lasts long enough for me to use my hedger and my string trimmer in the same morning. I have about 20 bushes and 1200 square feet of grass and this is perfect for me.

This is ok deal. They have 40v and 60v version. 40v is now obsolete.
If you have DeWalt other tool. This one good to have.

For standalone better go with Ego or Milwaukee

Same experience, have been using both for a year now. For thick heavy stuff I am really impressed with the faster speed on the weed eater. Eats it up. Only gripe is trimmer spool is a little hard to open up, but works very well.
