Was at the depot and saw they had the Makita rear handle x2 circular saw from Makita on clearance for $175.

As with almost all clearance deals. YMMV by location.

Great saw. I've been using it since it first came out.
Comes with:
- the saw
- 2x 5.0 batteries
- rapid charger - charges both batteries at the same time
- bag
- Makita fast frame blade

Hopefully helps someone out.

This is kind of tempting. Not sure if I like the idea of having to use two batteries for one tool though. Doesn't Makita make a full sized circular saw that uses one battery or am I imagining things? It's possible that they no longer make it too. Just seeing 6&1/2" ones in 18v. Anyone who has this care to comment on how good it is. I don't have any of their 36v line and was just a little curious if it's more for extra power or is it more for longer run time. TIA

I only have 3.0 batteries that came with my Subcompact 18v set and don't really see the need for 5.0 batteries on this saw since I only need it occasionally for a few cuts at a time. Perhaps contractors get better use.

If you have or plan to get in on the 36v line, this is a fantastic deal with the batteries. I have the string trimmer and blower which are fantastic, but you'll definitely want the 5.0 batteries. This set comes with two, which cost a fortune separately, and you can buy the other 36v tools individually once a sale comes along and be all set.

Actually the sub compact set only comes with 2.0 AH batteries (if you got the set that was on clearance not too long ago at HD - Sawzall, drill, & impact driver one). If so, the weed eater and blower doesn't run down in like 10 minutes with those batteries?

I can guarantee if you put a 5 amp hr battery on any power hungry Makita tool, it will blow the 3 amp hr battery away. My example, I have the brush less 1/2 impact. 3.0 relatively new battery fully charged wouldn't budge a harmonic balancer on a Kia. Put the 5.0 on and Bam right off like nothing. It even sounds more powerful. I have over 20 tools dating back almost 12 years. Just try it if you don't believe me. Sawzall too, much more power.

I got that exact set reconditioned off of eBay after stacking 20% coupon and 10% eBay bucks, and was happy to have such a deal because it did come with two 3.0s instead of 2.0s. They essentially built equivalent set out of individual pieces. Each tool was brand new, so I'm guessing there was a charger or battery problem.

As far as run time, I get at least 20 min of active run-time on the trimmer and a good 5 min of blower on the SAME set of 3.0 batteries. On the 5.0s they are each supposed to run for almost an hour apiece, but I'm only trimming around my fence and house foundation where I don't already have landscaping.

While not entirely on topic, I only hear about run-time complaints and the sort for commercial applications which don't apply to me in the slightest. I don't let my lawn grow to 3-feet high and cut the whole thing like they show in the demo videos of the trimmer in action. For an 8,500 sqft lot, I can trim everything and blow the residue (and my garage out) on one charge every time.

Odds if ordering online at full price for shipping and then return and rebuy at a clearance store?

You have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding this tool kit at this price.
