So. I bought the Envy from Costco with the intent to price match when the ad came out. Here are my conclusions with a 2 day review. Build quality is excellent. Solid materials with a full aluminum frame. Ports are plentiful. Touchscreen is snappy and responsive. The battery life was terrible, the screen brightness was very dim, and the touchpad was absolute rubbish. It jumps around with light finger movement. I returned it and bought the Dell Inspiron 7000 series with the Ryzen 7 that was recently on sale at Best Buy. (The sale has ended). The Dell was night and day better. Screen brighter. Touchpad more accurate. Build just felt more solid. The keyboard offset on the Envy would also take some getting used to, as it isn't centered on the screen because of the number pad.

Biggest complaint of all for the Envy - the audio driver seems to not function well with the hardware. I instantly had speaker crackling and the volume would drop to half as loud. This is a known issue with the audio drivers. It was super frustrating. I updated, deleted, and reinstalled drivers. Full system reboot. Nothing worked.

Posting my comments on the i5 model which I compared with a Lenovo IdeaPad 330S (also i5-8250U) - this is nearly identical except for the i7, but it's still a 15W quad-core CPU.

- Very good benchmark performance, doesn't throttle like the Lenovo

- Excellent battery life - 8-10 hours. This is about double what I get with the Lenovo (no surprise, the Lenovo has around half the battery capacity).

- Fan is not loud or annoying

- Similar weight and footprint to the Lenovo, both have thin bezels and weigh around 3.8 lbs, about as portable as a 15.6-incher gets without paying much more for something like the LG Gram.

- Good build quality, amazing for the price. Display lid and keyboard deck are definitely metal. I can't quite tell whether the bottom panel is metal (I think it is). The Lenovo only has a metal screen lid.

- Good matte IPS display. Seems a bit more colorful than the Lenovo, which is also matte IPS.

- Fingerprint reader works very well and quickly. It may seem small but it is NOT one of those annoying "bar" type readers that you have to roll your finger over. The Lenovo doesn't have it at all, so this is a nice feature, esp. at the price.

- Keyboard backlighting is another nice touch that the Lenovo doesn't have (although some other configurations of the 330S have it). Only one level of illumination.

- Keyboard travel is low but it's quiet and feels good. The Lenovo has slightly more travel, but the keys are louder and feel cheaper, for lack of a better description. Like the Lenovo, the numeric keypad has slightly narrower keys.

- Removing the bottom panel was more difficult than expected. I ended up breaking a few of the plastic clips, but it doesn't matter as the panel is held in place by Torx screws

- The model in this deal as a SATA SSD but it can be replaced with an NVME SSD. I took out the Optane drive and HDD that my i5 model came with, replaced with HP EX920 SSD (NVME). I also added another 8GB of RAM, making it dual-channel.

- Wifi is Intel 7265. That's not the latest but doesn't really matter. The important thing is that it's 2x2, compared to the Lenovo's 1x1. I replaced the 7265 with an Intel 9260 card I had on hand, works great.

Specs look great. Any personal experience here? Wondering about the keyboard comfort.

I have the 13 inch HP envy. I'd go for the envy based on the HP customer service. It's been a solid laptop, and when I needed the rubber feet replaced it took 10 minutes on the HP site with a rep.

The envy is in Best buy so you should be see it before you buy.

I have used acer laptops for the past 4 years including the 14" 8250 model of this one and i think they are amazing. For the money your getting just as good build quality as alot of laptops from dell and hp that are hundreds more.
