I bought one of these to tear up an area about 30' x 20' that would have taken weeks because it's all compacted nasty dirt... Digging with a shovel is unheard of. Hiring a Backhoe would have been 5 bills at least.

This thing took about an hour, that includes cleaning out the tines a few times. That's all I needed it for, so I flipped it for $20 less than I paid on Craigs.

I might get another one just in case, and this price is more than $20 lower than I paid.

Thanks, OP

I've had the 15amp version of this for 6 years and got a lot of use out of it. I abuse the hell out of the thing, running it through hard pack soil with lots of fist-sized rocks and it just keeps chugging. I did melt an older 12 gauge extension cord with it once. Switched to 10 gauge for any time I need to be over 50ft out and no more problems.
Why would a 12 Guage wire melt from this? #12 wire is used for 20-amp circuits in all of construction. Maybe you had a loose connection causing arcing

Is this just for planting seeds -- or also appropriate for digging up the grass and creating flower beds?

My lawn has tons of dirt patches on it, and it also looks sparse and unhealthy in other areas. I want to overseed the whole lawn. Can this be used over the entire lawn to till the dirt areas but then aerate the other areas? Or would it be best to get this for the dirt areas and get the dethatcher for aerating and cleaning up the rest of the lawn before seeding? I know very little about landscaping Frown
I don't think anyone answered this, but I wouldn't think this would be good for aeration. Isn't aeration more of a "poking holes in the ground" kind of thing? This is definitely a "rip up the dirt, turn it over and spit it out" kind of machine. I got this a few years ago, and just like others here, I love it.

Bought this last year $75. Works well, but you have to stop often to clean the blades if there are a lot of roots in your path

Sun Joe SPX3200 from last week with 2 year warranty for $108 was a better deal imo. Used it the day I got it and I couldn't be more pleased!

Wrong freaking post. Sorry.

Regular White Vinegar.

Walmart, probably 2 bucks a gallon.

And if you want to be an overachiever heat the vinegar (kind of a pain due to the volume of liquid) and dissolve some table salt in it, about 1 cup per gallon and it'll kill any weeds you have. If you do this it's better to pour than spray if that's feasible, because the salt can clog and corrode your sprayer nozzle.

Would it be worth an extra $10 to get the 13.5 amp from Walmart?
