I've had earlier models of these for about 8 or 9 years maybe and they're both still working great. Yes, they're great for smaller yards. I bought 2 larger batteries though as they came with the smaller half-dozen batteries. Batteries are finally showing signs of smaller capacity now but after 9 years I think that's incredible.

This is a good price. I bought the 40v combo set a few years back. The string trim was ok but it was the cheap similar entry level model. The blower was a joke. On blow small fine grass clippings. I returned and bought the higher end 18v p2008 string trimmer with 4ah battery and works great. Only blower that was decent without going to gas was electric and corded. Much more powerful than electric, cheaper and also can mulch pick up leaves. I would assume this blower is worse than the 40v one I returned.

This comes on sale pretty much every year. I got it 2 years ago when it was on sale but had to return it as the trimmer string while operating extends without control until it tangles; you will then have to manually tighten the string again and again...I am not sure if it is fixed now.

I bought this set (with the 4Ah battery) last year and I have never had this issue. You probably just got a lemon. I have a small yard (0.2 acres) and usually I can easily trim everything 2 or 3 times before I need to recharge. I rarely use the blower, thought it'd be nice to have (didn't have one before) but maybe I'm just too lazy. Probably not the most powerful one, but does the job unless the clippings are wet and stick to the ground.

That's generally what 1-day only means.

I checked online reviews back then and I have found multiple people reporting the same issue. I am not sure if it is fixed now but it was a big pain as the string got long and started hitting the foot.

Maybe it's a weak point or common defect. Mine has worked flawlessly, never had to touch the string. When I press the button to turn on the motor, the string feeds a little and gets cut off, and it doesn't keep releasing more string until the motor stops again. Has done this consistently every single time. Maybe contact them for a replacement mechanism? Don't know how good/bad their warranty is...

I returned mine right away the very next day to HD as it was hazardous; they made a big deal out of it as they stated I have used it and they are not going to take it back. I explained them the defect and there is no way I would have found it if I had not used it; and mentioned that I would like to buy a better one and requested to speak to the manager...what a trouble.
