I bought the smaller version of this and it is utter rubbish, because its made of thin metal and its not insulated like the most of the other electric smokers heating element is constantly on, and if you need more than 220F good luck it struggles to reach higher tempratures even when its 70 outside. I am returning mine back

Many of the reviews say the same thing. Several people also note that the door doesn't stay closed since it only has a very small magnet and the latch falls off. I noticed the sale yesterday but passed after reading the reviews.

Not even close. Masterbuilt is just about the best you are going to get for electric smokers until you get into the $400-$500 range.

It looks almost identical to the master built one. And with that one i had same issues as the first commenter mentioned.

I have been waiting for these to go on clearance. My intended use for it is to use it as a cold smoker. Drill a 3" hole through the side, attach 3" duct, and other end will attach to Masterbuilt smoke generator. Gravity fed cold smoker. Thin walls and poor insulation are exactly what's needed to do it actually. Cold smoking is for smoking cheese and fish for me. I do hot smoking like briskets and pork etc on my pellet grill with smoke tube.

Tempting because I didn't want to spend a lot on a smoker.

But will this thing do a consistent low enough temperature do something like beef jerky?

And will it get hot enough to do say a rack of ribs in a few hours after work?

I think I am going to bit on this... Couldnt care less how well it works as a smoker.. I want it as a small cerakote oven. Will add some insulation & call it a day.
