I had the gcam app and it actually took better pictures but the difference wasn't that much. The regular camera app felt more polished and I prefer the interface. I remember someone who referred the app to me said the video could get buggy. I deleted the gcam app. Maybe I will give it a try again but it is unnecessary.... The Motorola z2 Force camera takes really good pictures and the Moto Z3 will to. It is a big improvement over the Moto Play cameras and really right just a smidge below the expensive premium phones but beats others like OnePlus and older premium flagships. The earlier bad reviews on Moto Z2 Force camera was more due to being a very expensive phone and being compared to other real expensive flagship phones on day 1. If one is paying $100-$250 on a phone, you have to take that in account and not quite expect $750 phone camera quality but the Moto Z2 Force & Z3 takes very good pictures. I hate when I watch a youtube review and the reviewer automatically compares and almost expects the camera to be as good as $1000 phones.
I don't know. I'm def not a pro camera guy. but above average when it comes to camera technology and photo editing. I thought it made a noticeable difference. Also the files were smaller, better compression.
Great part is it does no harm to try it and compare for yourself. Big props to the people who actually take this from the Google Pixel phone and make it work for other phones.
Lastly anyone considering getting a new phone this is a great option for $120 dollars. Although the leaked pics of the Z4 look really nice. Screen takes up full front with a little notch in the middle. And just some upgrades all around.

Just placed an order online, got the credit pull, and everything goes through. Then, Best Buy cancels my order for not being able to verify information? but the line I opened isn't cancelled? The email states I may still be charged by the carrier. So basically, I opened a new line at Verizon and got nothing from Best Buy. What a scam.

I call both Best Buy and Verizon and both of them can't even give me a definite answer either way on what happened and whether the line will still be opened or not.

How can I buy this and use it on my current carrier? We used to just be able to port the number out. Does that still work? What do you guys use for number ports?

I downloaded the gcam again. I had the earlier version before. I tried the arnova advanced and it wouldn't even open up. I tried the bsg razor link and it worked. The pictures are sharper and better color accuracy. Thanks for the link.

I was comparing pics to regular camera app and gcam was better. I got a bug with regular camera app where it was stuck processing a taken pic and the screen was black so I uninstalled the gcam and the regular camera was fixed. I reinstalled the gcam and haven't had any issues with the regular camera app and GCAM app. I'm gonna use gcam more often now.

I have pixel 3a too and will compare both.

Update: The more that I am playing with this GCAM, the more that I like it. This GCAM is definitely much better than the old GCAM I used long time ago. It is user friendly, has improved the picture quality, gives you lots of options and has some nice features. At first, I thought some things were odd but after readjusting the settings menu, it is much better to my liking..... My Moto Z2 Force's camera with GCAM doesn't equal to my Pixel 3a's camera quality and have all its pixel features but it isn't that far off. Both are real good cameras.

Update #2: I would give the edge to GCAM in regular lit shots where no flash is needed but in dark shots, I think the regular camera app is better. I took various real dark shots and I think the regular camera is better than GCAM. The colors are little off in GCAM real dark shots. As for GCAM's "Night Sight", don't even use it. Just use the regular flash and the pictures will be better. I just think the flash works better on regular camera app than the GCAM camera. I compared regular camera app with flash vs GCAM app with flash vs GCAM app with Night Sight.... I like regular camera app the best in the dark pictures. More accurate colors, more detail and more realistic while the GCAM in dark shots looks simply more yellowish.

* Even though I prefer the GCAM pictures in regular lighting with no flash and even prefer the GCAM user interface, I think the regular camera app does a much better job in the dark where flash is needed. Maybe use the GCAM as my default camera in my favorites tray and then just remember to do the "twist for regular camera" gesture for dark shots. I took some more pictures in a well lit area and it is crazy how well the GCAM compared to my Pixel 3a. It is a shame that GCAM struggles in dark lit areas. I am gonna use GCAM as my default camera and then just use "twist gesture" for Moto Camera for darker areas.

* I read this in a post describing why the regular camera app does better than the GCAM in dark pictures..... "So very low light, Moto cam is a little better, probably because it uses the mono sensor that has fewer lenses to gather some extra light (even if it is way over-sharpened by the software). But the Google cam doesn't use the second sensor at all."

Just got the last one at my best buy. All went okay, but I was charged nearly $50 in tax. Is this right?

That sounds about right. They calculate tax based on the full retail price of the phone. For example, if it's 10% sales tax, $480 x 10% = $48. Of course, the amount of tax owed will vary by state Smilie

nice update. did the same. luckily saw this right after z2 play order and cancelled that. not sure if its worth $80 more than z2 play but hoping it is. especially with the alexa mod. anyone know if the original z droid wireless batt mod fit this?
Yes. It should. They promised compatibility until 3 gen and early indicators point that they will also be compatible with gen 4 in future

I've been looking into a new phone a little, this was one on my list since I'm a Moto guy. Hit up the local BB, they didn't have it but another local one did. Rolled over there, grabbed the phone, went to bill it out and it came up full price since I was planning on activating it myself. If you buy now, activate later it's full price, but if you buy and activate in store, you get the sale price. Mine also didn't charge tax on the full price. I walked out the door for $130, phone in hand with the Motomod Speaker as well.

Thanks for the post!

I have used it for all the various providers. On default setting (CDMA) or automatic, it does not quite use the GSM or similar as simply as the other truly unlocked cellular phones. The other source of irritation is the Verizon junk apps... Having used Pixel 2 and 3, a pure unlocked and without the nonsensical apps of the various cell phone providers have been truly pleasant. This Z3 is Verizon - and you will be reminded of the Verizon origin constantly...
There isn't another Z3, only the Verizon model (at least in the USA). There is an unlocked Z3 Play, but it's not the same phone.

Using it myself, the only thing that reminds me is the notification that it's not a Verizon sim card on reboot. Pretty much all the Verizon apps can be disabled. I've used it without custom settings (APN or otherwise) on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile MVNOs.

I have a Verizon Moto Z Droid that I bought, I think 2+ years ago and have been very pleased with it. Would Z3 be a worthy upgrade?

Also, looking at Z2 Play for elderly parent. Good?

It was the BSG V2a "RazorPhone2".... It has been working real well and I am surprise it has lot of pixel features even "Night Sight". I think the earlier bug that froze my regular camera was due to me, constantly go back and forth between the 2 camera apps at the same time while I tried to do a comparison. It has been fine on both camera apps.

No reason to get a Z2 Play now. With the sales going around and Z2 Play won't be getting much updates now, it would be tough to recommend Z2 Play for elderly parent. Plus with the Z4 coming out, there should be more sales coming on the Z3 phones (regular and play).
