I've had this in my cart for years and not that I see the price every day, but I don't remember ever seeing it dip below $200. This *seems* like a good price. Honey reflects this pricing too.

In for one. I just bought into Makita, and was surprised at how costly the jigsaw is.

CCC [urlhasbeenblocked] confirms this is the all time low price

I've been eyeing this, but never saw a price drop. So bought a DeWalt's new model 20v max jigsaw with 3ah battery and charger for $169 at Homedepot. I have makita charger and enough batteries already. Should I return it to get this? I'd like to hear advise from those of you who have experience of both. Thanks!

Meh.

This is D shape, the trend is heavily going toward barrel grip now which is superior in many different ways. DeWalt just released one (one of its newest tools) and can already be bought for just $30 more.

If you don't understand the benefits of a D grip, I strongly suggest you look it up. A lot of people notice instantly better control which is exactly what you need over a blade when there's no fence to keep it perfectly in place.. most of the time you'll freehand thus having it really high up like that means you're further away from the blade.

Barrel grip is the future for all brands and all major brands already have them.. just some are inferior to others while some don't have battery yet.

There is no way in hell I'd buy a D grip at this price though when I could get a barrel grip for not much more (and thats not even including any future sale prices).

Seriously, go compare.. it has air pressure to clear debris away, high quality, brushless, LED lights and more than powerful enough for any user. This one is NOT brushless

This is a good tool. I had one briefly before switching to the barrel grip Makita model. Then I went insane and bought a festool jigsaw.

It seems like jigsaws are expensive across the board. I want to get the Milwaukee M18, but it's $199 for the tool alone. My existing one is a Bosch NiCad, which is absolutely awesome except all of my other tools are Milwaukee. I tried to sell the Bosch for $75 at our yard sale but no takers. I'm going to try to sell locally to fund the M18 purchase.

I hope the Milwaukee is as good as the Bosch. Smilie

This is an older brushed version. The newer brushless version model XVJ02Z [amazon.com]is usually $229 on Amazon.

How did you like the barrel grip makita? And how does festool compare out of curiosity

I loved it, but I was new to woodworking. My dad will not use one. I think it's a preference. More than that its about the tool. I'll take a D grip makita with a frayed extension cord that might kill me over a Ryobi Barrel grip (if that exists).

Still haven't tried one myself. It looks like it'll be slightly easier to control, but it has the same problem that every jigsaw has in that you can't see where you are cutting all that well without hovering over your saw. I did see some advertising image from dewalt where the guy was reaching around and sawing from the underside of his work. I guess the barrel grip makes that an option. Doesn't seem super safe, but at least he can follow a line without the giant motor as an obstruction.
