The Alienware has IPS, higher refresh rates, and G-Sync. The Monoprice is okay if you are only a gamer and strapped for cash. Higher refresh rates on an IPS screen are definitely costly but if you are going to have a monitor for awhile the Alienware/Dell and LG are a great investment.
Well as you pointed out it's an investment. I currently have a 28" Samsung that I've had for almost 10 years and honestly it's been great. I just want something a little bigger as it's pretty much become my main screen for movies, videos, basically evening entertainment. So if I replace it it's going to be with something I'll use for many many years. That said $800 for a monitor I don't really need is hard to pull the trigger on...

Also what did you mean by "if you are only a gamer..."? Is that to imply that MP monitor is not good for watching shows, video or movies on? If that's the case then I certainly wouldn't want it as that is easily 70% of what I do on my computer

Wondering if I should jump in this now or wait to see if it gets lower later this year. Isn't Dell trying to release a new model?

The warranty that dell gives you with this monitor makes it worth it. You get 3 year warranty for basically anything that happens to it. I returned mine for one dead pixel out of box last year and they shipped me a new monitor next day with a return label for the other one. It was no hassle and I'm super happy with this monitor so far. Overclocked to 120 Hz at 1440p is nice!

Pros
----------------
+ IPS Panel
+ G-Sync (usually G-Sync monitors costs more than Freesync and their specs arent as good but more people use Nvidia cards which benefit from G-Sync)
+ 120hz refresh rate
+ 3440x1440 resolution
+ Curved

Cons
-----------------
- Only 4ms response time, most high end gaming monitors have 1ms to 5ms with lower numbers being better ie: 1 is better than 4.

- Contrast Ratio is only 1,000:1 so the colors might not be so good, the larger the contrast ratio number the larger the range of colors the monitor can display.

I really like IPS monitors 400+ nitts for movies and video. This is not a decision you have to rush and will be plenty of sales here and there. If you don't want to spend a lot just think of what you need, what you want, and what if you can live without. Does it need to be an ultrawide, does it have to have HDR, does it need a high refresh rate, can a TV replace what you need? If you cut some features and prioritize others you can probably find a nice $400 monitor on sale. The expensive stuff is for people who don't like compromises.

Edit: I can't speak for the Monoprice specifically but I'm guessing the colors aren't going to be accurate which usually isn't important in gaming but make a difference photo work and movies.

Wouldn't the LG that was on discount from Costco for $300 be a much better value than this. Assuming dedicated gaming monitor only.

Great monitor for the price, but as most people mentioned it really depends on the application.

Also the LG noted in the earlier post is a little better over all, but in the end you'll be happy with either monitor for gaming. (Dell's build quality is typically superior to other brands, so it may last longer)

Also add the "LCS10OFF" coupon for 10% back, making this effectively 719.99.

This is before 8-10% from cashback sites, and AMEX 10% cashback. Don't forget to check those offers. It made it worth getting this instead of waiting for the LG 34GK950F sale to come back.

I did some research and it's the best ultra wide screen IPS(34-36in display) 3440x1440p with g-sync display under $1000 I could find on the market.

Ok thanks I just got a new GTX 1060 6GB video card have a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27" now, and want to be able to run 1440 HDR and flightsim stuff etc. Love the LG OLED tv's but thought alianware was gaming oriented....
