Noob question - or do you own the phone at the end of contract or do you have to buy it off? How is this different from say verizon or att DPP?

Not sure why the TD's; great deal. Was able to get this on my SWAC account as well. After 18 months you can buy the phone for $187 one time pmt. So total about $210 + iPhone 6S trade for the XR....

You don't have to buy it after 18 months. You can return and pick a diff phone, or close your account.

If you don't wanna own it, that is...

The same old "free phone with 2 year contract" in a new bottle. Great if being locked in for 1 1/2 years works for you

Phone will be locked to Sprint until after 18 months and you buy the phone for about $200.
Great deal for long term Sprint users.

The phone will, but you will be paying for 18 months of regular service in addition to the BYOD line.

It doesn't say ANY CONDITION, here is the term:

Once you activate your new phone, you will have 30 days to return your trade-in phone in good condition.* It must power on and off, have no missing pieces, broken parts or cracks on the screen. Customer must own trade in device.

That's what it says in "See how it works" generic description, but in the "Trade In, Trade Up" specific details like it says this:

Trade In. Trade Up.

Bring your old iPhone 6s or newer in any condition to Sprint and lease a new iPhone XR on us.
iPhone XR 64GB $0/mo. after $31.25/mo. credit, applied within 2 bills. With approved credit, 18-month lease & new line of service. If you cancel early, remaining balance due. If you cancel early, remaining balance due. Excludes tax.

Very strange. I have a iphone 6 (unlocked via rsim13, otherwise locked to Total Wireless) and sprint accepted the imei. I am an existing sprint customer so added a new line to the existing plan. Came out to be $0 a month including plan and phone. I will try to see if my iphone 6 fly with this deal. If it doesn't I will only pay $15 a month for the phone which is still good as wifey has been continuously nagging to get her a "new" and "latest" iphone.
