Drivepeasy.com Annual Subscription FREE after Coupon (App based national toll-road pay-as-you-go service)

Use Coupon Code PEASYTRIAL at checkout to get an 1 year of Peasy [drivepeasy.com] for Free (normally $30-40)

Found this service that is hooked into a bunch of toll-roads across the nation, where you register your vehicle's plates with Peasy and you can then drive on any of the supported toll roads without having to sign up for each service or have a bunch of different transponders. It also works with any existing services you have but then becomes a backup.

You pay as you go, where every time you use a toll-road, they charge you for the toll + a small transaction fee (like 16-33 cents) ~ This way, you don't have to maintain a balance or account at every toll-road service, just one at Peasy.

I'm hoping it takes off because I travel a lot. It seems pretty nifty since it solves the problem of me being too lazy to sign up for those toll road services. Looks like they support a lot of toll-roads but there are some exclusions on certain toll roads that don't work which I hope they get soon, but I figure free is free so...

Some snippets from their FAQ [drivepeasy.com]:
  • "Peasy handles the enrollment process with all the toll authorities in our network on your behalf. When you drive on Peasy-covered toll roads, we ensure the toll payment is completed and then charge your credit card on file so tolls never land on your to-do list."
  • Tolls less than $3 - $0.16/toll transaction fee
  • Tolls more than $3 - $0.33/toll transaction fee

wow, you're right. This is a terrible idea. Forgot some states/toll roads still have gates.

so they charge up to 11% fee per transaction and $40/year? not a good value, unless paying through them gets us the same discounted rate that local tag holders and commuters get.

the service offers absolutely $0 savings.

I think you do typically get the rate that regular account holders get.. and it's not 40/yr since it's free now which is what makes it useful lol.

I dunno for me not having to sign up for more accounts I don't use regularly and paying 16 cents or something as a convenience is worth it I think.. well worth it if the annual pass is free.

I know some states EZ Pass charge annual fees but none are as much as $40. I live in MD but I got one from DE which doesnt charge any annual or monthly fees. MD used to charge $1.50 a month if you didnt use it and I dont live in the part of MD thats toll crazy.

In short though $40 a year plus the fee per transaction is almost borderline ripoff, not even remotely any kind of deal.

This doesn't seem to support ezpass, which rules out using it for most of the mid Atlantic other than NYC. Can't even use it in I95, which is pretty important.

Even if it covers useful roads for you, an annual fee PLUS per use fees? Who is going to do this?

Perfect timing for my fam. Wife and kids are heading to SoCal for a summer trip and it looks like this keep me from getting another violation fine like last year. Good look in out!

Interesting concept here. Gave it a shot and think this will work a lot better for me since I travel in a couple states with tolls. I don't have to get a bunch of accounts and manage all the prefunding and I added my wife's car too.

So, as long as I use my EZPass (COMPLETELY free if you get from MA - used to, hopefully still do), there is no transaction fee, but when I go to other toll road systems, this will kick in, correct?

I pretty much use the toll roads maybe few times a year when I am vacationing...

How easy is it to swap out the plate? Can it be used for rental vehicles? Can it be quickly unregistered? Would system be able to pay if toll notice comes maybe a month after I unregister the plate BUT it was active at the time of crossing?

Thanks.

So, other than a couple of first time posters (who posted back to back) not a lot of love for this "service".
