Just noticed that Amazon has the "Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS, 40mm) - Space Gray Aluminium Case with Black Sport Band" for 349.00 today. This is the lowest price I have seen for this particular model and camelx3 confirms that this is the lowest price. Surprised that nobody has posted this yet!

I was able to get Best Buy BM store to match this price. Best buy online wouldn't match it.

So, actual question here. Can someone help me understand the pros of the GPS watch over cellular besides the fact it doesn't have to be tied to cell plan? I just can't get past the uses of having a cell antenna and being phone free for most tasks.
The $10 a month plan for the cellular version isn't worth it to me. But that's just me because I have no use for it also it's a $100 more for cellular version right off the bat. Some people have their uses for cellular I don't.

Well original iPhone was also $499, and now it's $999 for a base XS. Times have changed.
Phone prices are probably more of a result of carriers keeping them high. As long as people are willing to pay only $46/mo more on their phone bill for 24 months they will remain high. Manufacturers will always keep their prices inflated. Almost everything today has a 100% markup but even if phones were only 30-50% markup then the carriers are making over $250 per phone. Oh yeah, cellphone service cost a lot more in the US compared to other countries because our carriers subsidize the price of new phones *cough BS cough. I'm waiting for someone to sue for price fixing.

I'm new to Apple Watch and need a recommendation on what meets my specific needs.

What's the cheapest and smallest Apple Watch that offers live GPS tracking for a non-iPhone user?. Nothing else matters just need live GPS tracking without an iPhone. This is for an older relative who has an Android phone but they leave it at home.

Original Apple watched launched at $349. It's funny how Apple inflates MSRPs over time so we think a $349 Apple Watch is a deal all of a sudden.

Completely agree! Perhaps some of it could be attributed to more expensive components, but mostly it is to make more $$.
Funny that "The community has rated this post as helpful", while the original post quoted (and agreed with) is hidden because it's considered unhelpful....

I have the LTE version, at first when I went to the gym it was nice to not carry my phone. But since I started paying for Youtube Red (Premium or whatever it is now) that's now my main app for music so I carry my phone all the time now. I never using the LTE on the watch anymore. and ended up cancelling it a while back. If I were to do it over again, I'd get just the regular one

I had similar dreams and went LTE on a used 3. But then couldn't justify an extra $120/year to quickly drain the tiny battery and radiate more EMF right into my body. I like it for sleep tracking and maybe the occasional hike but that's it. It's more bearable to look at than I once thought, and I really like the watch band. Only temptation to upgrade is the extra health features on the 4, but not worth essentially an extra $250 over what I'd recover selling the old one.

What would an Apple thread be without at least a handful of people complaining about the price?Wave

It's the best selling smart watch in the world, so obviously many people would disagree with the expert assessment and the whining of the complainers.

If somebody thinks that it's overpriced or too expensive or if somebody lives below the poverty line or whatever reason they might have, then don't buy one.

A deal on an Apple product that is lower priced than what that Apple product currently sells for at other places is a slickdeal.
True. If the same quality smart-watches can be sold for cheaper and still make a good profit, there should be competitors with attractive prices soon. Until that happens, Apple will keep reaping the profit. It's as simple as that.

There are same quality smart-watches that are being sold for cheaper. It already happened. The reason Apple keeps reaping profit is it tricked sheep into a cult like status symbol that makes them believe they should pay the inflated prices they put on their products.
