Seriously debating this/great deal. But leaning towards an external gpu setup. Anyone have good/bad experiences with an external gpu?

Yes, had to return mine when it was on sale for $999. FPS would frequently dip from 115 > under 15, within minutes of playing games.
Full of it...even if it thermal throttle, there's no way it's gonna throttle from 115 FPS down to 15...calling BS all day!!! lmfao

Just a heads up there is only 1 HDMI out on this. If you're trying to run a multi-monitor setup like I am your only option with this laptop is a docking station. This is fine if you're trying to do normal work functions (emails, excel, etc), but if you're planning on gaming forget it. An absolute oversight IMO.

Lol. Literally no one here but you thought this would have multiple HDMI outputs.

Ok most people game at home so be comfortable sit at a desk with a beautiful ❤️ ips 1440 144hz ips ultrawide banging out 100fps on high quality/ ultra freesync smooth gameplay. I guess you want to be in a park or shopping Mall fighting for medium settings with your legs burning because these laptops can NOT bleed off all the heat generated after a few minutes and eventually thermal throttle you down to low or frame drop lag. Lucky to get 20 minutes before battery death. I guess if you only had the money for one system this could appeal to me. College etc. Or a mobile business when you need to take power on the jobsite makes sense. I am just a two system guy I guess. Light cheap and portable ( 300 dollar i3 8th gen 8gb ram ssd 1080 ips backlit keyboard weighs 3 pounds LOVE it) other system based on 4790k just now getting around to over clocking because it just now might need it, plus the freedom of modularity in a desktop is wonderful on my 3rd video card. Kinda want to upgrade but not needed
This is one of those things that requires you to look at it from another person's stand point. People work. People travel. I'm pretty sure my co-worker goes home and sits at his desk for hours. Yeah, that life isn't for me. For me, portability is a must. I need the versatility of being able to use it as a regular laptop when not gaming. I use my consoles for shooters (in a home theater room set-up) so I don't need a dedicated area either just for PC gaming. I'll usually jump from my PS4 to my Switch and then on my Xbox from that same room. This is just another toy to add to the list. It comes down to the game I want to play, what system has it, and which system has the most friends playing on it. There is no telling how long I'd sit on a gaming laptop without running an actual game on it. But if I happen to be hooked on an MMO, a powerful laptop will come in handy.

The idea is that there is a outlet near you as well. I don't think anyone is thinking about sitting in a park while tethering a hot spot. Maybe they are, but they are probably better off with a Nintendo Switch or something at that point due to battery life alone. The way you are talking, I should just bring a picture of my home set-up and look at it or something while I'm away.

I think most people will agree, no one expects this to run at max settings either. Nor can it be upgraded. But the option to be able to game on the fly is there. Sure it might require lower settings and underclocking, but it will get the job done. I don't know many PC gamers but my co-worker also scoffed at wanting something portable. He wanted me to carry around my tower, monitor, mouse and keyboard so I can achieve the best visuals when away. He was serious too. But he is on the wagon now and is also contemplating a gaming laptop as a secondary device. For him, that would work as he primarily games on PC.

I dropped nearly 2k for a Macbook Pro during college (in retrospect, what a waste). It can't run anything right now aside from a few games at very low settings. But if I dropped 2k for a gaming laptop, I would have more options in terms of what can run right now.

Being at a desk with top of the line stuff is a must for a dedicated PC gamer. I won't argue that. But everyone is different and not everyone needs that set-up.

In for one.

Better act fast. it is going sell out fast
Was this price for Black Friday in 2017. Bought it then. Haven't seen it this low since though.

Pretty happy with it.

Man I cant decide if it's worth getting this, or spending a little more for a 1660.

Knowing the performance difference matters. 1060 is a very strong card, for the most part any game in play now or even next 1year!
Just a note, I have the 1060, bought a gaming laptop last year right before the RTX series (2xxx) came out. And yeah it is a strong card that can play current games on max settings and 60 fps. Graphic hungry games coming out next year however, will have to lower it to medium settings (Rage 2).

agree, it will be smart to wait for an 1660 or 1650 deal instead of this outdated 1060
