Yes, had to return mine when it was on sale for $999. FPS would frequently dip from 115 > under 15, within minutes of playing games.

Been eyeing this. Bought the ROG Asus. It is nice but no SD card reader and the one I got is 60hz screen but it is solid. It does have the bigger hard drive (500gb) and 9750 i7. For the extra $50 might be worth it for me to get more ram but smaller hard drive and 144hz screen. Battery life is going to about the same. Looks like 4-6 hrs depending on use. Maybe not for some one else. Did anyone have to repaste theirs? Thought I had seen a comment some where about that.

How hard is this to get open? Maybe a reapply of thermal paste will be good?

Tough to tell is the overheating only during "gaming", do not plan to game, but looking for a lot of HP for multitasking and running DJ software, controller etc. Thinking about pulling trigger on this.

i have the predator series and best laptop i ever had. keeps itself super cool and isn't too loud. i like this one more than my alienware 17" laptop. both laptops latest gen too and maxed out.
i got too much toys because neither i use anymore. using mostly my galaxy tab s3, sm-t820.

That cpu notoriously overheats - you need to undervolt it on any model to avoid throttle, Intel has a utility to do it, I did that one mine and it never throttles now,
