Anyone know how much data one of these apple 4k movies use? We hit our 1tb Xfinity limit last month with just the family streaming and binge watching some Netflix 4K original series. How are people watching a lot of 4K streams with hitting data caps.

I don't think there is. Also not sure how 4k black and white looks, considering HDR is the biggest draw in 4K.

I would say we average 4 - 6 GB to stream a 4k film, depending on length of course. We have AT&T U-Verse and as it's bundled with both internet and cable TV we have an unlimited data cap.

we are cord cutter and I monitor usage closely had to set vudu to sd on kids TVs and just found out yesterday you can set playback settings per profile on Netflix website. So I decreased the playback quality on kids profiles as well. This has helped reduce our usage.

"7 GB per hour per device for Ultra HD" per Netflix. Don't know about Apple, but prob similar.

Long story short, you prob won't easily come under your cap. Our first 4k tv destroyed our comcrap 1TB cap without any large game or torrent dls.

We ended up going to comcast business for way slower but still fine and no cap.

The final insult? Cut the TV cord at the same time so Comcast made me pay a $200 ETF even staying within Comcast. How's that for a good old FU?

I've done both of this recently as well. I hate damn data caps. Almost switched to att bundle just because they remove the 1tb cap if you have tv and internet.

I was gonna say, the 4-6GB number (per movie) seems low to me. Apple lists Predator as a 3.91GB download at 720p. Assuming similar codecs (I don't have a reference but I seem to remember the codecs/compression Apple uses for HD and for 4k being similar but not identical), 4k will be at least 4x that number.

And even though my torrenting days are long over, I'm not sure I could live somewhere with a data cap.
