Don't forget to add the $20 off $100 for a sweeter deal.

I am sure the batteries will change in a year or so and you will be out of luck trying to find new ones. This is why I go with Ryobi as the batteries have not changed in years. Now I know these are not great tools but for the nonprofessionals, they work great.

Thanks, I did know that. I thought maybe there was an alternate source.

This set's normal price is $159. It went on sale for $129. Needless to say, with an ebay 20/100 coupon $109 is a GREAT price for this set. The reciprocating and circular saws can be added later for $79 ea when they go on sale making this starter set the way to go to save $ vs. the larger bundles (unless you "need" a cordless hammer drill).

I replaced a 19.2V CM brushed set (manuf by Ryobi/TTI) with this one. I don't recall which Chinese co makes this for Kobalt/Lowes. No one you've heard of, possibly Nanjing Chevron or former Skil? Activate Googler. Anyways, both drill AND driver are significantly more powerful.

Beyond the marketing wank, they're 21.6V vs. the stated "max" unloaded voltage of 24. It's not Makita LXT or Milwaukee Fuel, but for the remodeling and the moderate to heavy around-the-house type of work I do, both tools have performed very well. The drill has computer control to STOP when overload is imminent (e.g. when attempting to use a Bosch Daredevil 1.5" self-feeding spade bit through a 40 year old double plate).

The old black Craftsman's had better handles (thicker, better grip), but the new brushless Kobalts have precise settings, all metal Jacobs chuck(s), plenty of torque, and MUCH cheaper batteries. The only negatives that I can think of are:
1. They come in a purse--like so many expensive tools nowadays instead of a hardened plastic case built for work...?
2. Drill and driver set only comes with ONE battery. Bring an extra 20 dollars for a second or get one free with a bare tool promotion later.
3. As someone in another thread pointed out, the internal circuitry has NOT been secured with waterproof coatings (YouTube: AvE to learn more). Sweating on your tools whilst crawling through an attic will destroy them. I'll conformal coat mine once I get some conformal coating...

Good job for making it this far down the post. This was written as an archive reference for people who search for Kobalt in the future. You're welcome.
