I'm assuming he means due to the speed of the ram...most gamers are shooting for 3200 - 3600 speeds. How much you'll notice this is debatable, but I think that was his/her reasoning.

Exactly my point. 3000/3200 RAM is only $5 or so more, and there's arguably gains, though disproportionately so on AMD builds.

that said, 3000 CL15 / 3200 CL16 is probably the value sweet spot. any more isn't really worth the price premium.

If you run ryzen, it's supposed to be a pretty significant tie in with the frame rates you have

It is good, but not significant. Anything 3000+ is fine.

I have the red version of this.

Easily overclocks to 2933 at 16-18-18-38 at 1.35v on an MSI B350 Tomahawk with Ryzen 1600x

Edit: corrected 2966 to 2933

What is the best way to determine if these RAMs will work with my motherboard? I have a fairly old configuration desktop.

Look up your motherboard online or manual/box it will list the compatibility of DDR3/4 and speed

The 3000 CL 15s below are a better deal for $10 more in my opinion. These have been at this price for weeks. The deal in the OP is better for the vendor to clear out 2666s. Smilie

Also the competing Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 CL 15s often come on sale for $70
