This was the same price for the 256gb from BB a month ago. I know it isn't currently available but wait for it. There seems to be a surplus of apple right now. Also the 256gb doubles the ssd performance as there are twice the chips. Same concept as dual channel ram.

Just to note for everyone, this is NOT the touch bar model. This is the 2017 model that they kept selling with dual-core, 7th-gen CPU and 2nd generation butterfly switches (generally considered less reliable that the new 3rd and 4th gen ones).

The 2018 model with touchbar has a quad-core CPU, which is significantly faster

You are right but to get the one with Touch Bar you'll need to spend minimum $1700
See comparison at apples website: https://www.apple.com/mac/compare...ouchbar-13

It was part of this flash sale: https://slickdeals.net/f/13022113-macbook-pro-for-900. The 128GB variant was $900.

My wife does word processing, excel and web. Would this be a viable model for that or is the quad core just that much better? the excel spreadsheets can be large.

This should be more than enough for those tasks. Rather, she could even consider the MacBook Air when that is on sale.

Not a good deal as this is the 7th gen processor. It's basically a 2017 model in 2019.

I'd suggest just getting a MacBook Air over one of these honestly, at least it has TouchID.

For that you really don't need a quad core.

Yeah as much as I want a non-Touchbar MBP, I'm not paying 1000+ dollars for a 2017 model. It will have the flex issue as well as the keyboard problems. Not to mention the staining issue from the anti-reflective layer.
