I purchased this laptop refurbished for $500 a few months ago. I repasted the CPU & GPU, added a 1 TB Samsung SSD, added 8 GB of memory and replaced the screen with a 120Hz display. I also undervolted the CPU .250V. Runs like a champ.

I got a refurb one last year for $500ish. Upgraded ram to 16gb (just search ebay you can find an exact match for the sodimm that is installed already, mine cost $35 for 8gb) and put in a 500gb ssd just for games. It's a great gaming laptop for cheap. The IPS 1080p screen is great. The 1050ti does 1080p games all day long.

On the downside... the trackpad sucks, and you have to press kinda hard to register a right click, and the whole trackpad clicks. It's bizarre but you get used to it. The backlighting is only dim red, can't change color or intensity. And the cooling fans can get pretty loud and busy, but if you're gaming you're probably wearing headphones anyway.

I took mine on last vacation where there wasn't much to do all day. I played Civ 6 all week (and some others).

One thing to keep in mind though is the thing is HUGE. I did carry it on my plane rides in a backpack, but don't even THINK about busting this thing out in coach. Too big. It's a good "destination" laptop, not a good "travel" laptop.

Bought a family member the AMD version of this bad boy from Acer Refurbished off of Ebay for $430 bucks. Upped the RAM to 16 and threw a Crucial SSD in there for $100. Very happy with things after about 2 months. Think I remember seeing that Acer is phasing out the Nitro laptops, which might explain the price dropping.

Mine works great. Playing Metro Exodus on Medium settings with solid frame rates. Fan can be loud but I've never had an overheating issue. Can play for hours

yes big loud heavy and battery lasts about 2 hours on the two i bought but my kids love them and build quality is solid. Agree that the only thing they don't like is the trackpad. Use a mouse.

I ended up going with the 1050, i7 8300, 1tb refurb for 429 shipped tax free from rakuten. I couldn't justify 200+tax more for new, ti and ssd (easy to upgrade to).

The gaming difference between the 1050 and the 1050ti is huge. The 1050 is a better 720p gamer, 1050ti can do 1080p medium settings.

But if you don't play games too much it won't matter. But on that topic, why buy a gaming laptop? Still it's a bargain powerhouse if you just want a big screen and easy ram/ssd expand-ability options. Get a good wireless mouse because the trackpad is terrible. I swear by Logitech M325 for my laptops. You can score one of those under $20 and they have the Unifying receiver if you want a wireless keyboard later.

The 1050 series is rapidly becoming dated.

Just something to play a little wow on that I can take with me. I do my main gaming on consoles.
