Lowest price ever. Lower price than previous FP deal from December.

Definitely NOT the lowest price ever. This thing was $399 for months.

Been this price for over a week. ordered one on Wednesday. I missed the 399 price but picked it up due to a sudden need of a ultra portable device.

Hoping I like it for basic stuff... We'll see.

I disagree. Windows 10 does a pretty amazing job working with not a lot of RAM. I still use a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet running full Windows 10 with an Atom processor and 2GB of RAM. You're not going to use a Surface Go for heavy computing tasks anyway. 4GB is probably plenty for what these machines get used for.

Not true I have a 4GB SP4 i5 and it does everything I need including Windows Sandbox and multiple VMs and of course Linsux subsystem stuff

People tend to blanket say 4GB is "not enough" with no factual proof of that statement, that is simply untrue. Windows 10 does excellent memory management and add in Chromium Edge and 1903 and away you go

A word of caution: If you do switch Windows 10 in S mode to just Windows 10 Home the process is one way. There is no easy way to roll back or undo the change. You can reinstall a factory image of the OS from Microsoft, but that requires a USB drive, some patience, and a few more steps (plus you lose all your data).

Additionally, if you switch from Windows 10 Home in S mode to just Windows 10 Home (FREE in Updates "Go to Store to switch to Windows 10 Home") you can buy a Windows 10 Pro license through the Microsoft Store and upgrade to Pro after for $99.

S mode is not that bad in fact in many ways its better

Not difficult, and certainly not one way...

I don't know too much about laptops. Is this a better deal for a high school kid?

The officedepot laptop is going to be a more powerful machine. The i3 processor is a bit faster and 8gb ram would be nice.

That said I would recommend the surface for a HS student. The build quality is better, it will stand up to being thrown in a backpack. My experience with cheap laptops is they work fine as long as they aren't used as "laptops" and just stay on a desk.
