Free Nickelodeon AND Nick jr.

For cord cutters and others looking to make their kids happy, you can now watch live Nick and Nick Jr. for free on Pluto TV!

I've seen mention of Pluto TV on this site before, but Nick and Nick Jr. were just recently added to their channel lineup.

For those not familiar with Pluto TV, it's a free app for the Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, and probably other app-based TV services. Pluto TV is completely free and has 60-80 live channels that resemble cable tv. They also have a library of free movies, with commercials, similar to Crackle, Imdb Freestyle, etc

The recent addition of Nick and Nick Jr. were a surprise to me, and figured it was worth sharing. Enjoy!

Pluto TV.

Although it is truly a definite cord cutter's solution and is completely free (it's HEAVILY ad-supported)... just be aware that there is a TON of non-kid friendly content (R rated content - nudity/offensive language - F/GD bombs dropped often) being shown on various channels.

And that old MTV garbage (pregnant teenage moms, etc) is being resurrected again. Garbage then... is still garbage now.

BTW, i'm not against these channels being available, by no means. It's just that I wish there were at least SOME method of password-enabling/channel locking that we could activate on those specific channels. But, as is often said, you sometimes must 'take the good with the bad' (especially when it is free).

So... perhaps that's why PlutoTV has now included the extremely 'kid-friendly' Nick Jr/Nickleodeon as channel choices (perhaps as a way to balance out the other 'porn-ish' content that can sometimes be found in certain channels)?

In regard to Nick/Nickeloden... I just hope they don't show those sleazy Adam & Eve sex shop commercials that they ALWAYS show during one our family's favorite & frequently viewed show: Unsolved Mysteries.

There's just nothing quite like a little bit of 'Sex Toy/Porn promotion' mixed in with smoky-voiced Robert Stack while eating popcorn w/my 2 young, highly inquisitive, toddler-age daughters on Friday night after dinner.

Good times! : )

P.S.: Repped OP for the heads up.

Just to explain what happened, Viacom bought Pluto, and with it they now have their content coming to Pluto. Generally that won't be new series and that sort of thing, however I thought I saw a promo for the BET awards live on Pluto. Anyway there are MTV, BET, Spike and Nickelodeon channels now. This gives Pluto much more of a basic cable feel.

To be clear, all or almost all the Pluto channels are specific to Pluto. You get CNN content, but you don't get the CNN cable channel. You get Fox Sports stuff but you don't get the live sports. So the Nick Jr. channel absolutely gives you Nick Jr. content, but it's not the Nick Jr. cable channel so it won't work like that. Pluto does have some of their own on demand stuff though.

Pluto does give you a robust set of content, in particular if you have a Fire TV or Roku TV that merges OTA channels with the Pluto lineup. For instance my favorites right now consists of 43 channels, which includes things like CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox, along with former cable channels like CourtTV and Spike, but also the Pluto offerings of Nick, MTV and BET.

It's not pay TV for free, but it is free and beats playing $100 a month in my opinion.

Thanks. Exactly what I was wondering. So much for adding Pluto to the kiddo's Roku in the playroom.

Pluto also has CNBC.
Not sure what day it is (i.e., how long it is delayed), but you can watch crazy Cramer.

I have this installed on my kids Roku. I was able to go into the setting and select which channels I wanted to be available for them. So whatever I thought was not appropriate they don't have the option to watch. It takes a password to change the settings.
