$49.99 and Free Shipping

Seemed like a great price for a brand new 3TB HDD. It's an older model, but performance marks for this drive are around 150MBps sequential read/write, if I remember correctly. This would be a great option in a RAID array. Personally, I think I'd do 3x drives in a 9TB striped array for a Steam installs location. Load times should be similar to a basic SSD at that point.

The seller, gohardrive, is a scammer who sell drives that are completely worn out as "refurbished" "renewed" or other misleading labels.

These drives are nearly dead when you receive them and they zero out the data, hoping that they'll last long enough that you won't be able to return them anymore.

They're significantly slower writing and at the same time, not significantly cheaper than non-SMR drives. I bought one (a seagate plus hub) and in addition to the SMR issue, the USB enclosure is just lousy. Even when intending to use it for backups only, it's seriously annoying. I bought it because it was on sale but altogether I still feel like I paid way too much for it.
So SMR for me, did not have a good first impression and I've been avoiding it ever since.

In the past GoHardDrive sold old hard drives with thousands of hours on them as "new" so I wouldn't trust that these are new.

Sigh... these are NOT smr. , these drives came out in 2011.

Not that SMR is a problem if you know its limitations.

For anyone taking a chance, just run crystal disk info (freeware) when you get the drive, it'll tell you all the stats of the drive including run-time.

(it's not much of a risk because it's ebay and you'll get your money back if they' really are old drives)

This is extremely suspicious:
that these are new.

They have SELLER warranty for 1 year.

I guess you can always go for money back and keep product
if they arent as advertised.
. good luck with that.

Wouldn't you have to return?

If they're used drives, they're pretty much worthless, because they would've been used in enterprise situations with thousands and thousands of hours.

In that case, the seller may not want them back, because they're worth-less than the shipping for return.

I highly doubt this is the case though.. but yea, check it with crystaldiskinfo when you get it.

I have bought older drives then these that came as new. There is no reason they aren't new. Someone probably bought bulk drives some time ago and they sat on a self.

The only thing misleading is the warranty. When I tried to registrar the serial number I got an error that its not able to be warranted by Seagate. So warranty is by seller but good luck. Your shipping cost if and risk for what, if anything, you get back.
