For those of you who can shop on AAFES (shopmyexchange.com) the Hero 7 Black is on sale for $299.95, Silver is $179.95 and White is on sale for $129.95.

Hero 7 Black [shopmyexchange.com]
Hero 7 Silver [shopmyexchange.com]
Hero 7 White [shopmyexchange.com]

Unfortunately it doesn't include the chest mount like the NEX deal did.

I don't know when this sale ends.

Hero 7 black has major issues. I would avoid until they are addressed. Issues with SD cards over 64g, overheating issues in moderate conditions, random freezing which requires removal of the battery, external power causes additional overheating, use of the phone app somehow also causes overheating, rarely records longer than about 4 minutes.

From what I understand that is all dependent upon the SD card that you use. Some SD cards work perfectly fine with the Hero 7 Black and others overheat.

There have been a bunch of updates for the Hero 7 Black since the issue was identified in Fall of 2018.

I'd bet a lot of the issues you have identified are no longer issues or are only issues under certain conditions.

Like I just found the following..

"The GoPro staff (and daniel who wishes he was one) tend to suggest the SD card is the problem straight off the batt. Or the other typical response is "do a manual update".

If you're using a recommended SD card then it won't be the problem, and if it is GoPro have something to answer for.

Overheating GoPro's are standard, it happens to everyone. Especially at 4k 60fps. That is the answer I'm afraid, just use lower specs for longer recordings."

As I just mentioned gopro has a list of recommended SD cards because every SD card on the market is not equal. You have to pay special attention to the SD card you are using because you are going to be Writing a lot of data while capturing video especially so in 4k.

The overheating issue doesn't seem to be a new issue when it comes to GoPro's. Perhaps just don't record at the bleeding edge rates (4k 60fps) all the time and you'll probably be good. You probably don't need to record in 4k all the time anyhow.

Not only was I using SD cards from their supported list - but I had also used the same SD cards in other 4k cameras with no problems. IMO they should offer the 4k/60fps as 'beta'.. adding it as a feature otherwise, I'm rightfully expecting it to work. Also my camera is less than 2 months old, and is fully up to date. GoPro has all but ignored the 12 page thread about it on their forum as well.

Well.. I've read a variety of accounts and it seems like some units have the issues you are talking about and some don't. You might just have a defective unit. Might want to get it replaced under warranty and hopefully get a better working one than you currently have.

Ya, it's pretty much the only option. So many have the problem I'm not gonna bother though. Those that have RMAed have made it clear the process isn't the friendliest (and they just had the same issues all over again). I'm just determined warn everyone against it until GoPro properly addresses the issues.

Side note, I've tried both the black one and the limited edition black (which is confusingly in a white case). I thought the white case might help with heat issues, but it did not.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm staying away from the Hero7 black for now.
