These jackets are not overpriced. At their regular price, they are appropriately priced for the quality you receive. The price reflects the cost of purchasing from goose farms that are RDS certified and raise geese with highly sought after (and expensive) 800 fill down. It also reflects the R&D that went into making the down hydrophobic (aka addressing its achilles heel) and the fabric both flexible and rugged enough to withstand intense sports. This isn't fast fashion; its thoroughly researched and carefully executed hardwear. At these prices, these jackets are a steal. Comparing them to polyester filled jackets you find at Kohl's is like comparing a Chevy Sonic to an Audi A8. Maybe actually buy one and wear it before writing it off as overpriced? Otherwise, your seat awaits.

Stretchdown DS jackets are great, I got a ton of compliments from people for grey color (not sure if that's an option) but it's a fantastic jacket (tho not packable compressible at all (ie takes up quite a bit of space)

Agreed unless your in really cold areas. I'm going to Alaska for a week and I even think I would be throwing my money away on this.
Yeah there's really nothing in Alaska you're going to encounter that is truly brutal unless you go in the dead of winter; and in that scenario you'd want something more serious than these offerings.

Is this overkill for a replacement winter jacket for my daily NYC commute on and off the subway? My daily winter coat is done and need something to replace it. The reviews say it's not the warmest coat out there, but I certainly don't need the best of the best. I mean, how does this compare to something I would find at Kohl's?

At these prices, this gear is great! I prefer Patagonia gear but getting a down hoodie at this price is unbeatable. They are light jackets, packabke, look good, and a staple if you live north of Florida.

I bought a stretchdown DS jacket in the fall. lots of compliments. However, it's leaking a bunch of down around the seams. I sent it in under warranty, and they sent it back saying "amount of down coming through seams is less than what is allowed for". Like 🤨 how do they know how much already came out? Disappointed.
