LCD does not produce HDR better.

HDR has differences from SDR in many different areas. Brightness is only 1 area.

Even then, you're wrong about that as well.

OLEDS produce anywhere between 400-600nit peak brightness. This is sufficient to reproduce HDR.

WHY, because diffused white in the HDR spec is still only 100nit, the same as SDR.

Everything above 100nit is designated only for HDR HIGHLIGHT USE, for example laser/ neon fire/explosions

So what exactly makes an image Subjectively HDR looking. CONTRAST RATIO.

This is where OLED can not be matched. It produces ~20,000 : 1 contrast, the highest of all current display tech.

The DIFFERENCE between the brightest and darkest pixel is what gives the effect of High Dynamic Range.

LCD especially IPS panels are terrible in this area because its contrast ratio is terrifically LOW. only ~700-1000:1 . VA panels are better at around 3000-6000:1

IPS is simply incapable of producing a good looking HDR image, because it can not faithfully recreate the Low luminance values.

What is a NanoCell TV, does it represent something new or just the latest marketing hype?

Based on this it seems like for the price getting a vizio p65 would be much better, right?

Seems like a great choice if you're a gamer but not so much for tv viewing and native 120hz.

IMO if your main priority is tv viweing I would find something better. The IPS panels holds this tv back if it had VA I bet it would be a great multi use TV.

This is IPS.. It's among the best IPS panels, but Overall, if you're looking for a good HDR experience, only VA and OLED can reproduce it accurately.

My impressions of this is LG finally made a decent budget TV. Okay at $650, could be much better.
