PSA: Mi Electric Scooter (M365) Recall Notice

This recall is for the Mi M365 Electric Scooter. The issue, per Xiaomi, is that "a screw in the folding apparatus has the potential to come loose, causing the vertical component to break from the main body while in use."

Of the 10,257 units affected, 7849 units were sold in the UK, rest in other countries. There is no mention of units sold in the US, however, they do note that they *do not have information of about 169 units sold*. This is in addition to scooters bought in one location and being used in a different one.

There is a "current" FP deal for this scooter sold by both Amazon and Walmart. I read at least one review on Amazon about the folding mechanism issue.

See link for more information about the affected serial numbers and the start date of the recall.

One of my initial posts. Please take it easy if there are issues in the way it is put together.

Glad to see they're fixing it. I almost bought one two weeks ago but held off after reading about this being an issue in several customer reviews.

New models are not affected. I bought mine last August 2018 and it has a manufacture date of June 2018- It is past the affected date and not under recall.

But prior to this recall, how would you know when a scooter was manufactured before buying it? Seems plausible that the ones that were on sale recently could have been made between October 27, 2018 and December 5, 2018, which are the dates they listed for the affected units.

Oh wow, it's early and i'm tired. Didn't read the whole statement and just assumed the dates were prior to my scooter, as when I bought it there were plenty of people in the m365 fb group that had the hinge snap in the front. I agree, there could plausibly still be scooters manufactured in this date range being sold. Probably not from amazon, but maybe from smaller resellers.

I still have the stock hinge lock @ 800km but I should probably swap it out. The bottom line is the benefit to the scooter is that it is repairable... but not necessarily easily. Apparently it's a real bitch to knock the pin out to replace the hinge in the front.

I'll be paying attention to this recall. Thanks for the clarification. FWIW I love this scooter and it has saved me DAYS of time commuting to work over the last year (over an hour walking time a day versus about 20 minutes of commute total on the scooter). Can't put a value on that.

Oh muh gawwd! This is crazy. Bout to go check my ride for the numbers now and I pray it's available for this recall because twice already I've been going at full speed and the front thing bent down and I almost busted my hoopty hoo.
