Yes.
The conversion (as of yesterday when I did it) when you convert from xbl to ultimate is 1:1 for both xbl and xbgp remaining time.

Example.
8 months of xbl
4 months of xbgp

You get 12 months of ultimate plus the 1 month for buying the 1 month ultimate for $1.
Total of 13 months of ultimate.

Get whatever time you want to be locked in for (max of 36 months total between xbl and xbgp) BEFORE you convert to ultimate.
I signed up for the $1 deal first Frown what happens if I cancel, and redeem gold months, then sign up again? Will it still be $1?

Won't work like that. You may want to consider making an alt/new profile to set it up correctly.

Any idea when the $1 promo might expire? Hopefully not before this order arrives

No idea, i contacted Xbox chat support and they wouldn't say either. Some "guy" who was in the Insider Xbox program "says" it would run til August, but again that's just hearsay from only him.

Okay, so we're probably safe enough for this deal to arrive and redeemed it thanks!

I'm confused on how to get the conversion for Ultimate Game Pass.

I don't own an Xbox but I just want PC game pass for as cheap as I can get. Given that PC game pass alone is $10 a month, what do I need to do to take advantage of the Ultimate game pass deal to bring it (if possible) under $120 a year?

Check out @duhFooL's response above about how the conversion works.

The Ultimate Game Pass includes: Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, and PC Game Pass. It will cost you $15 / month (no annual plan at this moment). When you signed for the $1 deal, that's a one month trial membership. MSFT will bill you $15 after the first month. If you signed up for the Ultimate Game Pass, I believe you get 10-20% off if you decide to purchase one of the game in the library. Since Gears 5 isn't coming out until September and we don't know how long MSFT will run this $1 promo, it's hard to say what's the right thing to do if you don't own an Xbox.

But, if you do own an Xbox and you haven't signed up for the $1 Ultimate Pass deal, you should load up Xbox Live (up to 3 years) before you convert to the Ultimate Pass. MSFT will all your pre-Ultimate Pass member ship (xbox live and game pass) to Ultimate Game Pass membership. So, if you have 2 months Live and 2 months xbox game pass, you will get 5 months of Ultimate Game Pass (2 months + 2 months + 1 month $1 trial) for only $1!!!
So if I only have a pc and only wanted Gears 5 at a discount then I am really not saving much with this it seems. Thanks

Not digital but this one is a bit cheaper with coupon if you don't want / need the other games. I already own them and don't want to bother trying to resell. This is physical vs digital.

Assuming you currently don't have XBL Gold or Game Pass, you can buy up to 3 years of XBL Gold, from this deal or elsewhere. AFTER you have redeemed those on your account, sign up for the $1 for the first month for Game Pass Ultimate. This will convert your 3 years of XBL gold to Ultimate, which includes Game Pass PC. Since the $1 deal includes a month, I don't know if having 3 full years causes problems, as that would put you at 37 months..... not sure if someone has done it this way or not, maybe 2 1/2 years or so plus the $1 deal to be safe.

No one knows how long this deal will go for, the $1 for the first month might be available for awhile, but they could pull the 1:1 conversion rate at any time. Also, when everything is done, don't forget to turn off auto renew.

In the other thread about converting to ultimate, people have reported success on cancelling the ultimate upgrade, applying xbl, and then re-upgrading with success.
In these cases, they got the $1 refund.

I believe you have a time period to regret your choice and get a refund.

So even of you buy gamepass for the $1 trial and cancel auto renew, you'll still have ultimate?? I currently have about 15 months of xbl left with no gp

It sounds like this is a physical card in the mail. Anyone know where the lowest price digital codes are sold? I want in on the Game Pass Ultimate deal and I doubt it will last long enough for this to arrive in the mail.
