I'm gonna assume you're new to speakers and not pulling a fast one on us 😄 don't cut any speakers you buy it changes the sonic signature dramatically for the worse. Take a look at this guide for desktop speakers in various price brackets, you'll get solid performance on a desk from one of these selections like you would the JBLs for a room

Nah, just a sore loser.
I already have many great sounding bookshelf speakers, in the lower end.

Try signing up for the harmanaudio newsletter and order through them instead of JBL

Looking into my crystal ball, these are a line of speakers that will be one that got away once gone.

I understand that these sound good, but it is ugly as hell. It's an eye sore. These would scare me if i turned the lights off.

Have these and 520C. They look great with the grills off.

Explain to me why JBL would keep selling these at $300 if the MSRP is 800

That center will be back on sale, just wait for it. I would always match your center channel with the left and right speakers.

I would also recommend two or three budget subs over one better, bigger sub. You can get better bass from 30-200 hz in room that way. Getting that range right is very important.
Multiple subs get you better coverage to various listening positions in a room. Not all AVR's can take advantage of this, and the ideal positions can be very difficult in some rooms. Most budget folks using budget calibration tools are going to be better off with a single $300 sub than two $150 ones.

You got lots of money to blow and are trying to get good bass to all your seats in your three rows of home theater seating, then you've got the budget and tools to really leverage multiple subs.

Cheap guys should just be selfish, calibrate it at your seat, and get the better sub which will play lower. Other people can get the less optimal seats as chances are they both care less and are not in a position to complain.

Sir because these are ugly sir
Very few electronics items sell at MSRP. MSRP is for suckers.

They might be ugly but the money is going towards a good design, build, and component quality well above this sale price. All things considered they are not THAT bad for a horn speaker. There's not much you can do to hide a true horn loaded compression driver and properly designed big boxes, which is most of the reason these guys are so good.

I agree with others that in today's market the chances of this Studio 5 type of speaker line being affordable is becoming less and less likely. If you want what this speaker line offers you should be buying at these prices. Harmon has gutted their loudspeaker design division and the future is good if you want bluetooth speakers and trendy little sat systems. Not so good if you want high quality speaker designs from them at reasonable prices.

I've just ordered the S590 last week. Should I cancel that order and get these instead?

The same reason samsung doesnt sell their crap for MSRP.
JBL is no longer associated with quality and great sound. they are just a consumer audio company putting out what the mass market and their mommy (samsung) tells them too.
They lost their cache years ago and sold out. too bad because at one time they were a well respected company making high quality audio components.
