Sadly your observations are correct if you go on a busy season. We went off-season, and it was great, which made us go back there 2nd and 3rd time but sadly 2nd time we got rained out and 3rd time we had to go back and use our ticket and it was a really bad experience around July 4th last year. After that we decided we are not going back.

I don't see a Holiday World near north east? Seeing one in Kentucky.
We went to Hersheypark on June 30th, so around the same time as you and it was packed as well.

Holiday World is in southern Indiana.

It's a smaller park with areas that focus on the different holidays. They have some coasters (not major ones, but still fun) and a water park combined. Because of the location if you go during the week it's usually not that crowded and you can ride the rides over and over again. Sometimes the waterpark side can be busy but the staff keeps everything under control and moving along.

Alot of people may slam the smaller parks but for our family some of the most fun times we've had have been at smaller parks like these. We also had a great time at Silver Dollar City in Branson.

If you don't live nearby, it's still fun to go for one time.

Probably a stupid question, but can we use groupon gift cards on this? If so Samsung Pay has $50 GC for $45.

We love going to Holiday World. Very clean, nice employees, free parking, free unlimited sunscreen and free unlimited soda. Their water park is superb and their roller coasters are loved by my teens.

Awesome timing. Road tripping in August. Hersheypark first then headed over to Busch Gardens for a few days. We were planning on buying 2 day passes for $80. Now this. Went to Groupon right away and even got 6% cash back.

Tiffany....what the hell is a Groupon?
Absolutely the most underrated comment of the thread LOL! Too bad people who don't understand it couldn't just move on and are giving you thumbs down instead.
Her telling that story sold me as a fan. Hilarious!

Amusement parks in general are less crowded Monday - Thursday. Of course somewhere like Disney World will still feel ridiculously crowded. But Six Flags and other theme parks are amazingly slow on Tuesday and Wednesday. I learned this as a kid when we had season passes to a park. Confirmed it when I worked there years later.

I've been to HP few times and I think we had enough, we need somewhere that's a bit nicer and not nearly as spread out. It takes you forever to walk from one end of the other, and HP is not designed properly, it has hills, and you have to walk all the way back to exit, not a circular design which is one of the worst things for HP. Food is not that good, very limited and overpriced but they let you take food from outside as long as no hard containers or glass bottles.

Thanks, HP needs to do a lot of work on their lines and overall cleanliness, it needs a good scrubbing and a good overhaul in older rides, it just looks dingy in some areas, other, like water park area is nice, but again it's not as clean as I'd expect. It's super cheap I guess that's what they got going for them. Hotels are not that cheap in the area though which ruins the experience.

I've never been this far down south driving, so it's a pretty long drive from new england to VA, but I am considering a week long trip, stopping by at DC and seeing the sights, capitol etc. I wonder if that's advisable.

I was considering six flags too, but reviews of 6F are horrible. I am skipping. Why can't we find a nice water park to go to. Unless we go to Volcano Bay or Disney's water park, very pricey.
I would not consider going to the Six Flags near DC. The last time I was at the New Jersey one, it was decent.

I guess their amusement park area is fine, but water park area is horrible, from what I read on all review sites.

Regarding Busch Gardens, any hotel recommendations?

Thanks, I was just asking for hotels, didn't see your post.
How is parking at the parks? Do they each charge their own parking if we decide to drive?
