Newegg has the 2TB Samsung T5 External Hard Drive at $297.99, its lowest price ever plus free shipping (EggSaver 2-5 days) (and no sales tax for select states [https://kb.newegg.com/knowledge-b...s-tax-in/]). Given that Newegg will charge sales tax on July 1st, 2019, take advantage of this while you still can.

Samsung T5 Black 2TB [newegg.com] @ $297.99 (MSRP $399.99, according to Newegg)
Samsung T5 Black 1TB [newegg.com] @ $167.99
Samsung T5 Blue 500GB [newegg.com] @ $87.99

B&H Has Similar Pricing on the 2TB Model. The other capacities are pricier than Newegg and are not worth mentioning here.
Samsung T5 Black 2TB [bhphotovideo.com] @ $297.99

If you want to take advantage of the fastest shipping (especially if you have Prime and are in Free 1 Day coverage) Amazon pricing is slightly pricier plus sales tax, but the 2TB Samsung T5 External Hard Drive at $299.99 is its lowest price ever. The 1TB in Black is also at a substantial discount, but not at its lowest price ever on Amazon.

Samsung T5 Black 2TB [amazon.com] @ $299.99 (MSRP $479.99, according to Amazon) [38% off]
Samsung T5 Black 1TB [amazon.com] @ $177.99 (MSRP $249.99) [29% off]

Features
  • Superfast Read-Write speeds of up to 540 MB/s
  • Top to bottom metal design that fits in the palm of your hand
  • Optional password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption
  • Includes USB Type C to C and USB Type C to A cables. Shock resistance
  • 3-year warranty. Software requires Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), Android 4.4 (KitKat), or higher
Not convinced this is the best portable drive to buy in 2019?

Added price to the title. Why not upvote? This is the cheapest ever for this device on Amazon.

I got the 500GB T5 on Staples for 50 bucks a few months ago. It's fast but I wouldn't pay 87 bucks for it.

Just a suggestion, I'd put SSD in the title. For people who didn't know what the T5 is, this looks like a terrible deal. lol

Less than 10% discount? It's way more than 10% for the 2TB model. Samsung has the discount at 299.99 similar to Amazon, but it's marked as limited time.

It's a good price for this product, but it's no longer the drive to beat. It's limited by the SATA drive inside. At the 2TB tier, any NVMe in an enclosure will do better, for less, with a newer technology.

I'll rep for the well done post, but can't thumb up.

Certainly SSD prices are going down. T5 is good for portable use. I will wait further for price slide.

Show me an NVMe and an enclosure combination that can beat it's portability (size and weight) and reliability. Reviews claim it to be faster than WD SATA drives.

Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB [amazon.com] for $299 at nearly twice the speed.

There is a new NVMe drive deal posted every day, you can take your pick of endurance, brand, etc. Even with the cheapest of external enclosures you will reach higher speeds than the T5.

Notice I pointed out portability and reliability, not performance Smilie
If you evaluate the two products by Dimensions, Weight, Other Features, and Heat... Samsung T5 comes out on top easily.

Dimensions
Comparing dimensions alone, the Samsung T5, it's smaller in every way... significantly.

Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB
4.9 x 1.8 x 5.7 inches

Samsung T5 2TB
2.3 x 0.4 x 3 in

Weight
If we look at weight, the Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB is even more embarassing.

Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB -15.8 ounces
Samsung T5 2TB - 1.6 ounces

Other Features
You also don't get the drop guarantee of 2 meters the Samsung T5 has and the optional 256-bit AES password protection. The Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB has none of those.

Heat
If you look at the reviews of both products itself on Amazon, it appears heat is a potential issue on the Sabrent Rocket Pro 2TB from the reviews.

Sabrent Rocket Pro - "Very fast in relation to older external hard drives that ive had, does get pretty hot while in use though."

No reviews of the Samsung T5 on Amazon ever have mention of heat being an issue.
Samsung T5 - "…I've had no issues with heat at all.…"

Given the M.2 form factor, there is no way anything could beat the Samsung T5 form factor. Sure the NVM.e does have higher speeds over any SATA interface, but the M.2 form factor is never going to beat out what the Samsung T5 has unless something new comes out, which will most definitely cost a lot more than what your seeing now for this 2TB Samsung T5 SSD.

If you think those measurements are for the drive not the shipping box, then you've never held an M.2. The only dimension in which the Sabrent is larger is the length.

Amazing drive and price! It was over double this price about a year ago. I have about 1TB of photos/videos that used to lag when I pulled them up on a 5400rpm Drive. With this all photos/videos are up in an instant and I can scroll all of them without any noticeable lag time.
