I've been having a terrible time finding laptops with 16GB of RAM lately, and this seemed like a decent deal. Note that the laptop is very configurable: you have several different options for processor, RAM, display, storage, keyboard, and even laptop colors. (The price above reflects a machine I'd actually want to buy, but you can lower the price by downgrading the processor, RAM, and/or screen if you wish.)

Here are the details of what was spec'd above:
  • Color: Black (6 other color options are available for +$10-$15)
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U (2.1 GHz, up to 3.7GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)+AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
  • 16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2x8GB)
  • 15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
  • 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD (1 TB 5400 RPM HDs + SSD options are also available as upgrades)
  • Standard Keyboard (NOTE: a backlit keyboard is available for +$30 if you first select a premium laptop color for +$10-$15)
  • 802.11b/g/n/ac (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo

Besides the 256GB SSD I listed in the original post, this laptop is available with two other storage options:

1 TB 5400 rpm SATA; 128 GB M.2 SSD (+$40)
1 TB 5400 rpm SATA; 256 GB M.2 SSD (+$120)

Also, if you change the color from black to any of the other colors offered (ranging from +$10 to +$15), then a "Full-size island-style backlit keyboard" option becomes available for +$30.

You WANT more and faster ram for apus as a good chunk of performance comes from those 2 areas. Remember that the GPU on there shares your total ram

Thank you. Best budget laptop for stock trading.
My recommend option:
AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U (2.1 GHz, up to 3.7GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)+AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
12 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB)
15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
Wifi 2x2
Total: $530.

We have never ever used up to 9GB Ram in my life.

I am thinking about laptops also, and would prefer 16Gb Ryzen 5 like this. Looks like a significantly better deal than anything comparable at any of the big stores, like Costco. I'd like the 1TB HD thrown in too, but it's not a deal breaker for a laptop. Battery life and fast booting SSDs are a lot more important than storage for laptops, especially since I have an external SSD for bulk storage if I really need access to a lot of large data files. The only problem for me is the standard keyboard; I need a backlit keyboard for any laptop.

"Full-size island-style backlit keyboard" option becomes available for +$30.

Can anyone explain what this is? How is island-style different?

This HP deal is much better.
Intel 620 vs Vega 8? [userbenchmark.com]
Turbo up to 4.1GHz? only 1 core, not a different.
12GB RAM and 16GB RAM. I will pick 12GB RAM to save money. Never use up to 9GB in my PC.

Love the configurations and am tempted. Holding of for one configured like like the OP (+ backlit keyboard), but want an IPS panel.
