I've been having a terrible time finding laptops with 16GB of RAM lately, and this seemed like a decent deal. Note that the laptop is very configurable: you have several different options for processor, RAM, display, storage, keyboard, and even laptop colors. (The price above reflects a machine I'd actually want to buy, but you can lower the price by downgrading the processor, RAM, and/or screen if you wish.)

Here are the details of what was spec'd above:
  • Color: Black (6 other color options are available for +$10-$15)
  • Windows 10 Home 64
  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U (2.1 GHz, up to 3.7GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)+AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
  • 16 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2x8GB)
  • 15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
  • 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD (1 TB 5400 RPM HDs + SSD options are also available as upgrades)
  • Standard Keyboard (NOTE: a backlit keyboard is available for +$30 if you first select a premium laptop color for +$10-$15)
  • 802.11b/g/n/ac (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo

Thank you. Best budget laptop for stock trading.
My recommend option:
AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U (2.1 GHz, up to 3.7GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)+AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics
12 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB)
15.6" diagonal FHD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
Wifi 2x2
Total: $530.

We have never ever used up to 9GB Ram in my life.
You WANT more and faster ram for apus as a good chunk of performance comes from those 2 areas. Remember that the GPU on there shares your total ram

"Full-size island-style backlit keyboard" option becomes available for +$30.

Can anyone explain what this is? How is island-style different?
I think that's just a different term used for a chiclet keyboard. Like a MacBook keyboard where all the keys are separated by the laptop housing so each key is like an island with no contact with the other keys.

solid deal IMO, i landed the envy 15 a few weeks back for 450, but with the all the upgrades I did, it would come out to be the same price, and I had to spend a few hours doing all the installations (it ain't easy guys, HP really throw a loop in these laptop if you want to do your own upgrade).

Mine is a ryzen 2500, these 3500 are better CPU...

solid deal IMO.

In this intel deal, the upgrade the RAm from 12GB to 16GB for $50 + wifi 2x2 for $30. Here is only $30 for RAM and $10 for wifi 2x2. Also, would you rather use Intel 620 instead of the vega 8? That deal is much worse for Intel fans.

This or the Dell 3580?
This one has touch screen whereas the Dell does not. Not sure if that is important to you or not. I didn't think I would want touchscreen but now I don't want to get a laptop without.

I've always been a fan of Dell and have soured on HP over the years, so I will probably pass on both. Anyone else have experience/an opinion on HP laptops lately?

On a side note, that product page on Rakuten (for the Dell) is horrible.

Looking for the cheapest 15 inch laptop that can be charged via USB C with a high quality screen. Those are the specs that really matter to me. Any help?

Question from the technically illiterate mom here... would these specs work as a gaming laptop? I want to get one for my son and was thinking about waiting for Prime Day. But if this would work I might go ahead and grab it eatly.

You're asking a loaded question.

Which games? Is this going to play the newest AAA titles on ultra - no. Will it play Fortnite on low settings - yes.

This has a Vega 8 graphics card - here's a link showing the frame rates (FPS) for each game. "Full speed" for most games is 60FPS while most will find 40-60 playable with occasional slowdowns.

Thanks. He's 14... Fortnite, Overwatch, Ark, etc. Not sure if he plays on a "low" setting though.

I wouldn't suggest anything without a dedicated Nvidia graphics card for those games.

A minimum of a GTX 1050Ti and leaning more towards a GTX 1060 (or higher).

My 14yr old daughter plays Fortnite on her 1050Ti laptop without any issues.

As new games come out the graphics requirements will go up. There is no such thing as "future proof". You'll just delay how long it will be before you have to buy a new one. The either spend the $ now or you spend it later. There is no option to upgrade the graphics card in laptops.

I hope this helps - good luck!
