Connects to your cars OBDII port (usually under in the driver's footwell area) for power. Doesn't work on a Tesla Model 3 because it does not have a OBDII port.

I have an aftermarket android gps headunit as car stereo with google map pre-installed but requires internet for the navigation to work. so this sprint drive will act as a hotspot for my car's android gps to be connected to for google map navigation or streaming video on youtube?

Yes, you can use it like that or just for having WiFi in your car

If just for GPS purpose, does the device allow u to download (offline) map? That way you don't need Internet connection.

actually I've used offline google maps, unfortunately, they only showed roads without names (like a maze).

I had one and returned it!
a few issues to make you aware of:

1). it plugs into vehicle's computer port that is must likely under dash and as such will lose internet signal a lot

2). must have vehicle running when you want to use the wifi from it. if your sitting waiting at job site, or fast food place thinking that you'll use wifi from it well you will have to keep vehicle running or it will shut off. I even purchased a 12v powered port and plugged it into that to try to use it as cheap unlimited wifi and that did not work either.

3). this is undocumented but can be concerning. What is sprint doing with your travel data such as speed, miles, location, etc... most likely selling it to several data brokers and it could end up your insurance company seeing it just something to think about or incase of accident another data item that can be used in court.

has anybody used this device before? does the device power on when the car key on acc position or the engine has to be running? do you have to logon to your sprint account on your cell phone each time before you can connect other devices to this sprint device?

I got one of these a few months ago, the device was constantly turning off while driving so my daughters tablet would no longer work. I called Sprint for help multiple times and every time they told me to press the reset button on the device until the screen went blank. There is no reset button or screen on the device. Eventually the unit died altogether. It took two months of calling customer support before they finally got me in touch with a team that knew what a sprint drive was. They eventually let me out of my contract because they refused to stop charging me while the unit was broken and wouldn't replace it even though it was under warranty.

I guess my point is Buyer Beware!
