"Kiundai" as they're often called are effectively just part of one giant Chaebol in Korea. Same parent company as hard drives, appliances, and shipping containers.

Korea has companies that resemble what the US was in the 50s. A lot more conglomeration, less specialization and far less anti-trust breakups.
