Emails Connect Census Official With GOP Strategist On Citizenship Question

34,649 2,423 June 15, 2019 at 04:18 AM
is there anything the GOP can't try to manipulate for their own gain?

https://www.npr.org/2019/06/15/73...p-question

Emails released Friday show that Christa Jones — a longtime Census Bureau employee who currently serves as the chief of staff to the bureau's director, Steven Dillingham — had been in contact with Hofeller as early as 2010, using both her official Census Bureau email address and a Hotmail address. In a January 2015 email, Jones sent a link to a Federal Register notice that asked for public comments ahead of a field test of potential changes to census questions.

"This can also be an opportunity to mention citizenship as well," Jones added in a follow-up email the next day.

Months later, Hofeller would go on to complete his unpublished study outlining how census responses to a citizenship question could be used to draw political maps that would diminish the voting power of Latin people.

The Trump junta claimed that Hofeller was some nobody who played no role in creating the citizenship question, but here we have unimpeachable proof that he was the puppet master. He wrote the proposal, and he fed it to the officials who then put it into effect once Trump made clear that he wanted to restore segregation in America.

Thanks for ^this entirely predictable moment of dishonesty.

Of course you know the words you quoted have nothing to do with Trump's impeachment, but dishonestly suggest otherwise. vomit

#VulgarDonald "Trump is a pathological liar." "Trump is a phony." "He doesn't know the difference between truth and lies. He lies practically every word that comes out of this mouth."

Then: "The pattern we've seen under President Obama, disregarding the law, is really one of the most troubling aspects of this presidency, When he disagrees with the law…he simply refuses to comply with it."
Now: "Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny, Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America. I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally. I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to chose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court decision."

"What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that, not only what he (McConnell) told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again was a simple LIE."

Then: "This bill (Hurricane Sandy relief) is symptomatic of a larger problem in Washington—an addiction to spending money we do not have. The United States Senate should not be in the business of exploiting victims of natural disasters to fund pork projects that further expand our debt."
Now: "Today, Texans are hurting. ... Democrats and Republicans in the congressional delegation will stand as one in support of the federal government meeting its statutory obligations to provide the relief to help the Texans who are hurting."

"In the 13 months I've been in the Senate, it has become apparent to me the single thing that Republicans hate and fear the most - and that is when they're forced to tell the truth. It makes their heads explode. An awful lot of the Republicans wanted exactly what Barack Obama wanted, exactly what Nancy Pelosi wanted, exactly what Harry Reid wanted, which is to raise the debt ceiling, but they wanted to be able to tell what they view as their foolish, gullible constituents back home they didn't do it."

"Look – look, of course we should have a surgeon general in place. And we don't have one because President Obama, instead of nominating a health professional, he nominated someone (Dr. Murthy MD & Harvard Medical School Professor) who is an anti-gun activist."

"What I tell people is I wear this (indictment for abuse of power) as a badge of honor"

"His (Robert's) decision yesterday and his decision a couple of years ago violated his oath of office,"

"Today's Democratic Party has decided there is no room for Christians. There is a liberal fascism that is going after Christian believers."

The same people who complain about poster invoking trump while discussing Obama invoke Obama while the subject is squarely re goo and trump.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Also it is one thing when people play politics on minor matter. But when we are talking about important stuff as citizenship and apportionment and being counted, it is reprehensible not condemn bad behavior to the slightest and resort to whataboutism.

If you constantly condemn X then it pretty embarrassing to keep invoking X when trying to defend your man. But in the trump era the concept of shame and honor has gone down the toilets.

Umm... can someone please explain to me why illegal immigrants should be counted on any kind of census? Except as a way to help ICE do their job, I mean.

  • Democratic Socialism: 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
  • A moderate is simply a conservative that is ignorant or uneducated about the facts.
  • I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. — Ben Franklin

Because the Constitution requires it. Is that a good enough reason for you?

I did a thorough search of the OP and even the title of the OP and "Trump" doesn't appear anywhere Comfort

You know what does? The years 2010 and 2015 where Obama was in office Comfort

I'm interested. Why would our constitution require illegals to be on the census?

I get you probably can't answer the "why", but I am hoping you can show where it says that.

Immigration? But only because the democrats have already sold our country out for a few more votes.

Also, while we're on it, the citizenship question is really important in an era of unchecked illegal immigration.

I've yet to hear a rational reason that we shouldn't have a citizenship question. Federal dollars AND votes are supposed to be distributed according to where citizens live. If a non-citizen is missed in the census, the census still meets it's constitutional objectives. And what citizen would be bothered by that question?
